Victorian State School Spectacular

On Saturday 9th September, eight of our students represented our school as a part of the Mass Dance ensemble in the Victorian State School Spectacular, performed at the John Cain Arena.

After seven months of early morning rehearsals run by Ms. Growse, as well as 4 full-day rehearsals with local schools across the year, plus two full-day dress rehearsals at the Arena, our students performed two massive shows alongside more than 2000 students from state-schools across Victoria.

If you missed seeing our girls in action, don't worry! The show will be broadcast on Channel 7 on Saturday 9th December... so put that date in your diaries!

Our amazing dance ensemble included: Hannah A, Bella W, Mia W, Willow H, Lauren H, Fern H, Tahnee M and Abby B.

It was a massive three days full of hairspray, hair braids, lollies, fruit snacks, games, dancing, laughs, and lots of fun!

The theme for this year's show was Happy Travels, which followed a group of tourists as they traversed the globe in a cavalcade of circus mayhem. The arena audience was amazed by giant puppets, a dazzling circus with awe inspiring aerialists, fireworks... and of course some awesome dancing from the Mass Dance crew.

"It was a really fun few months, getting to learn all the dances and getting to see all of the other schools doing it with us was probably the best part of it. The show day was probably the most stressful yet fun thing I’ve probably ever done, I loved getting to listen to the crowd and watching the other dancers off stage."

Abby B, Year 8

"I really loved the experience of dancing with all the girls. It was so much fun and I would do it again."

Mia, Year 9

"Taking part in such a big event was so fun and I felt really proud when we all came on stage, it just was super fun in general!"

Willow H, Year 7

"I have really loved this experience! It has been an amazing few months and I really hope we get to do this again next year. I loved dancing with all the girls and all the memories we have made together!"

Fern H, Year 9

"School Spectacular was really fun and I really hope we can do it next year. We had so much fun meeting all the crew and the other mass dancers and we made some good friends. They were all so fun to be around and really crazy and funny people. I really hope I remember the awesome days we had."

Tahnee M, Year 7

Since 1995, the Victorian State Schools Spectacular has been helping students to get hands-on training and mentoring both on stage as singers, dancers and performers and behind the scenes in audio, lighting, video production, stage management, costume, and hair and make-up.

This was the first year Heathmont College has had students involved in the Mass Dance ensemble... and will hopefully not be the last!

If you would like to be involved in the Victorian State School Spectacular for 2024, keep an eye out on Compass over the next few months.
