Mock Court Case

Year 9 and 10 students in the Crime and Politics elective have recently participated in a mock court case as the ‘crime’ part of the unit concludes.

The case that was heard was one of a (fictional) contestant from TV show ‘The Bachelor’, one Catherine Shaw (played by Keanu Bull of Year 9), who was charged with the theft of 5 long stem red roses from ‘The Bachelor’ mansion. It was a practical opportunity for students to put into practice their knowledge of our legal system and have some fun!

The case was presided over by Judge Austin Langley (Year 10). Senior Crown Prosecutor Zoe Morgans was ably assisted by Junior Crown Prosecutor Chloe Schreuder (both of Year 9). The Senior Defence Counsel was Bella Whittam and Chloe Chasemore played multiple roles of Junior Defence Counsel and a witness (both of Year 9). Patricia Chan (Year 10) played the second witness.

The jury deliberated and declared the accused ‘guilty’. Stay tuned for the sentencing hearing!
