EEP Program September Update

Since our last update EEP students have participated in a variety of events with some notable achievements. Late August saw EEP students participate against other schools in the Maths Games Day where teams were pitted against each other to solve complex problems that involved not only their maths skills but also their ability to use strategy to plan ahead against rival teams. In a very competitive setting with multiple teams from areas such as Templestowe College, Doncaster East Secondary College, Officer College and Balwyn High School. In a tightly contested affair, our Junior team came second and one of our intermediate teams came a respectable 6th. Well done to all that participated!

Year 7 and 8 EEP students also had an excursion where they went to the city for a tour in a variety of exhibits in the Immigration Museum. This experience was to provide students a unique opportunity to have a better understanding and appreciation of the peoples that have contributed to Australian society which continues to this day. Students gained insight into the variety of factors that lead to migration- some through challenging and though provoking means that provides a human element behind migrants as well as appreciate the positive changes in society through the years. After learning about how migrants have contributed to our social fabric in Australia and the changing views on migration, students learnt about the challenges migrants when they first arrived on Australian shores.

After the museum, students had some time in the city to eat and mingle. Students such as Alan Trau and Lewi Wall took advantage of the piano at Melbourne Central to play a few tunes and showcase their talent. We look forward to future outings to further extend our EEP students to broaden their horizons and encourage them to gain further experiences that can further their understanding of the world around them.
