Grade 3/4 - Graffiti Names
In class students have been looking at Graffiti artist Lady Pink. Lady Pink was one of the first female graffiti artists who broke into the New York graffiti scene in the late 70s. Students engaged in discussions about whether they thought graffiti was art or vandalism. Lots of interesting opinions were shared and respectfully challenged during the session.
For the art activity students looked at space, working on their foreground, middle ground and background. They learned how to bubble and block letters, create shadows and blend using coloured pencils. Students are still in the process of creating but looking forward to sharing their work once they are complete.
Grade 5/6 - Deborah Halpern Tiles
The Grade 5 and 6 students have been learning about Melbourne born artist Deborah Halpern. Her public sculptures can be found along Birrarung Marr and Southbank. Her sculptures often feature fantastical creatures and human-animal hybrids, brought to life through intricate mosaic work.
In class students have used Deborah Halpern's work as inspiration to create a clay tile. In this project students created stencils for their tiles, they learned skills including rolling, shaping and joining. In the next few weeks students will be painting and sealing their work.
