Single Paragraph Outline

 

We have been focusing on how to write a nonfiction paragraph. We have been using the Single Paragraph Outline (SPO) as a guide. This format follows the structure of 

  • the first sentence in the paragraph tell us what the topic is about 
  • the following sentences support the topic sentence by giving details about the topic
  • the paragraph ends with a concluding sentence

 

Here are some Year 3 student paragraphs about a country using the SPO structure:

 

Vietnam is in a continent called Asia. Vietnam has a train from South Vietnam to Hanoi. It has amazing food like ph’o, banh mi and bun dau. Vietnam should be your next flight.
