Attendance & Punctuality – Every Day and Every Minute Counts
A reminder to all families that regular attendance at school is important and as a parent or carer, it is your responsibility to ensure your child is at school each day and on time. Learning begins from the first bell, and each day missed is a learning opportunity lost.
Currently, our whole school attendance sits at 87.28%. We know that sometimes absences are unavoidable, but there are steps families can take to help improve attendance and punctuality.
Ways You Can Support Your Child’s Attendance:
- Schedule family holidays during school holiday breaks
- Send your child to school on days they have appointments. They can leave for the appointment and return afterwards, ensuring they don’t miss the whole day.
- If your child is sick, keep them home until they’re well, but please return them to school as soon as they are ready.
Arriving on Time Matters
Unfortunately, last week 341 students arrived late to school, averaging 70 late arrivals per day across our two campuses. This is a significant disruption to both the learning of the child who is late and the rest of the class. Being on time sets a positive tone for the day and helps children settle into their learning routine.
Tips for a Smooth Morning Routine:
- Pack school bags and lunch boxes the night before.
- Decide on breakfast options the night before to avoid last-minute decisions.
- Turn the morning routine into a fun challenge – see who can get ready the fastest (with shoes on the right feet!).
- Allow extra time for travel or parking, especially on busy mornings.
If you are experiencing any difficulties with attendance or getting to school on time, please don’t hesitate to speak with your child’s classroom teacher. We are here to help.
