Reports and Interviews

From Tom Drummond, Senior Assistant Principal

Reporting Your Child’s Learning Achievement

At NMPS, parents and carers are always welcome to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s learning and wellbeing. If you have questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher via Compass. This is also the best way to arrange a time to meet if there’s something you’d like to discuss in more detail.

Throughout the year, teachers will also share information about your child’s learning and wellbeing through the SeeSaw platform and through positive behaviour Compass chronicles, celebrating a student’s demonstration of our school values.

Formal reporting of student learning and wellbeing is provided through our Semester Reports (issued at the end of Terms Two and Four) and through our Parent-Teacher Interviews held at the beginning of Term Three.

This year, we’ve moved the Parent-Teacher Interviews to early in Term Three to better align with our Semester Report process. Meeting at the beginning of a new semester allows teachers and families to meet to celebrate students’ achievements and to set learning goals for the semester ahead. In-person interviews build connections between student’s school and home life, and allow for shared discussion of student work samples. For families who can’t attend in person, we’ll also offer online interviews via WebEx.

Save the Date: Parent-Teacher Interviews

Wednesday 30th July & Thursday 31st July

This year, families will see a number of changes to our semester reports. Firstly, after the summary page, you will now be provided with a one page report for each Learning Area. This will bring subjects taught by our Homeroom teachers (including English and Maths) into line with the way we report our Specialist subjects. On each page, you’ll be able to read the expected level of achievement specified by the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standard. We hope this change gives you greater insight into your child’s current abilities and helps you better interpret ‘what the dots mean’ on your child’s report.

With Semester One Reports being closely followed by Parent-Teacher Interviews, written teacher comments won’t be included in mid-year reports. Instead, we hope that all families are able to make an interview time to meet with their child’s teacher - or, for eligible students and their families, to attend a Student Support Group meeting at the beginning of Term Three. Written teacher comments will be provided by Homeroom teachers in the end-of-year Semester Two Reports, as in previous years.

In keeping with NMPS’ strong focus on student wellbeing, there’ll also be a new Wellbeing subject page, reporting student learning in the Personal & Social, Intercultural and Ethical Capabilities of the Victorian Curriculum. Also, reporting on student behaviour will now align with our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Expectations, reinforcing our community’s clear and consistent messaging to our students about the actions that create a safe and positive learning environment.

As always, there’s no need to wait for interviews or reports if you would like to know more about your child’s learning or wellbeing; login to Compass and contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting.
