Dance
Dance at MGC has kicked off! We have begun our co-curricular dance program with some experienced and talented external choreographers. The program allows for students to explore both contemporary and commercial styles before and after school. As well as this we had two students Immy Martin and Lola Freeman perform their VCE Dance solos at ‘Top Class 2025’, representing MGC.
We also have a Dance Club currently in the works for Term 2…keep an eye on the Arts board!

MGC Dance Captains
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Lola Freeman and Immy Martin for being selected for Top Class Dance 2025. Students are only invited to audition if they receive full marks for their Unit 3/4 Dance solos.
These talented dancers proudly represented Melbourne Girls' College at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 25th February, 2025. The current VCE Dance class was lucky enough to watch the two dancers performing. Thank you to Jordan Evans and Georgia Culvenor for teaching the VCE students and preparing them for success. Once again, congratulations Lola and Immy on this outstanding accomplishment, the entire MGC community is thrilled for you!
Melbourne Recital Centre Excursion
On Tuesday 25th February the VCE Dance class visited the Melbourne Recital Centre where we had the privilege to watch Top Class. We were inspired by all the incredible performers including two of our very own, Imogen Martin and Lola Freeman. Both performed their Unit 3 Skills-based solo, and Lola also performed her Unit 4 Cohesive Composition solo. This was an incredible experience, and we can’t wait to start working on our solos!

Drama
VCE Drama and “37” at the Melbourne Theatre Company
The VCE Drama students had their first trip to the theatre last week and saw the first of the compulsory VCAA nominated performances – “37”, at the Melbourne Theatre Company.
"37" is a play by Nathan Maynard that delves into themes of community, identity, and the complexities of winning within the context of Australian Rules Football (AFL). The narrative centres on a small coastal town's local footy team, the Cutting Cove Currawongs, which has long struggled at the bottom of the league. The arrival of the Marngrook cousins, Sonny and Jayma, named after the traditional Aboriginal game, that inspired AFL, offers the team a chance to break their losing streak and secure their first premiership in years. “37” juxtaposes choreographed sequences of Marngrook and the modern game with the hilarity and at-times questionable banter found within sporting clubs around Australia. Set during the era of Adam Goodes's "war cry," – and named for the number he immortalized – “37” asks ten actors to throw themselves into this world of blood and grit to get at the values that drive a national obsession.

Music
Meet the Captains!
Of all the predictions of this year, 10-50 years ago, it is our pleasure to make the ones about music come true! Join us throughout the year, as we celebrate our musicians’ achievements and venture into performances in the pedal power cinema, battle of the bands, compositions, ensembles, soloists, choirs, music camps, recitals, festivals, competitions, VCE exams and MORE. Being 2025, we aim to make this year the best of any music related events in the past. Whether you are a parent, student, or teacher reading this, there is always an opportunity to be involved in music here, at MGC.
