Years 7 & 8 Sub School News
Assistant Principal's Report
We are excited to embark on another year of learning, growth, and community at Melbourne Girls’ College. We look forward to working with you and supporting our students in their journey ahead.
A big congratulations to our Year 7 students on a fantastic start to their secondary school journey! It has been a privilege to see them embrace new challenges each day as they settle into secondary school life. Their enthusiasm and adaptability have been truly inspiring.
Our Year 8 students have smoothly transitioned back into their school routines through the Settling In program. It has been wonderful to hear them share stories about their new experiences, in Dance, Music, Language, Food Technology, or even Cadets. Their energy and curiosity continue to enrich our school community.
As the Occupational Health and Safety Manager, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of ensuring that safety is prioritised during drop-off and pick-ups. With ramp upgrades currently underway across the college, it is more important than ever to ensure students have safe access through the school gates. We kindly ask families to drop students off on Yarra Boulevard in designated parking spots, rather than driving in through the school gates. The school gates are not drop-off zones, and entering through them creates safety risks for students and staff. Your cooperation in keeping our school a safe and accessible environment for everyone is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to an exciting and inspiring year ahead! I hope to see many of you at the Pedal Power Cinema.

Year 7
A Fantastic Start to the School Year
Congratulations to all Year 7 students on their first few weeks of secondary school.
The Year 7 students have embraced their transition into secondary school with enthusiasm and resilience, making the first months of the school year truly memorable.
From the very first day, students settled in exceptionally well. Mastering their locker combinations, navigating their way around the school, and adjusting to new routines. Their adaptability and eagerness to learn has been impressive!
A major highlight was the three-day camp at Arrabri Lodge in Warburton. This experience pushed students outside their comfort zones, encouraging them to take on new challenges and step into unfamiliar situations. Whether it was tackling obstacle courses, participating in team-building activities, or bush dancing, students forged strong friendships and lasting memories.
Adding to the excitement, Year 7s also participated in their very first swimming carnival. With the theme "As Seen on TV," students dressed up in creative and entertaining costumes, bringing energy and spirit to the poolside. The event was a fantastic mix of competition, fun, and school pride.
As the year continues, we can’t wait to see what more is in store for our incredible Year 7 cohort!

Year 8
Year 8 students at Melbourne Girls’ College have had an exciting and eventful start to Term 1.
To ease into the new school year, students participated in a Settling In program, an excellent opportunity to build connections with classmates and teachers through interactive ‘get-to-know-you’ activities.
A standout experience so far has been the Medieval Incursions, an immersive event linked to the Expanding World curriculum. Students explored the social roles of the Medieval period and even had the opportunity to dress in historical attire, bringing their studies to life in a fun and engaging way.
Another highlight was the Pedal Power Cinema, where students generated enough energy through cycling to power a movie. Providing an insightful lesson on sustainability and renewable energy.
This year, our Wellbeing program is further enriched by The Resilience Project. Each student has received a journal and will participate in activities focused on resilience, gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on students’ mental health and overall wellbeing. Learn more about The Resilience Project https://theresilienceproject.com.au/
We would also like to extend our gratitude to our Year 8 Junior Ambassador leaders, whose support at Parent Information Evenings and College Tours has been invaluable. Your leadership and dedication have played a key role in fostering a strong and supportive school community.
We’re excited for what’s ahead! Stay tuned for more updates on the fantastic experiences unfolding for our Year 8 cohort.
