Years 9 & 10 Sub School News

Assistant Principal's Report
Welcome back to the 2025 school year. We are already in full swing with events and activities filling the days for our students.
Our Year 9 and 10 parents were welcomed back to the school at Information Evenings at the start of the term. These sessions provided information about key events for each of the year levels, supports available to students and how to access them, information for parents about who to contact if they have concerns and the curriculum program for each of these year levels.
Our Year 9 students took part in a Proactivity session where they were able to try out some activities to build teamwork, adaptability and collaboration. This provided an opportunity for our students to get to know each other outside of the classroom and to start to build stronger relationships with their peers.
The Swimming Carnival was a very successful day and students who attended all enjoyed the chance to spend time with their friends outside of the school and to cheer on their houses. We remind the school community that these events are compulsory school events and attendance is required. Students who are absent from these events will be required to provide explanations from parents, either through Compass or a note sent to the school. The Athletics Carnival will take place on Tuesday 25th March and we hope that all students will be in attendance on this day.
Year 9 students also completed their Morrisby Career Assessment on Wednesday 26th February. Students will receive the results from these later in the year when they will also have a one-on-one interview with a careers advisor to help them interpret their results. We encourage all students to read these reports carefully when they receive them and refer to them as they make subject selections later this year and into VCE.
Year 9 students will be taking part in NAPLAN testing in the coming weeks while our Year 10 students are settling into their elective classes and, for some, beginning their VCE studies. We encourage students to speak to a trusted adult if they are feeling overwhelmed or concerned about any aspect of their learning.

Year 9
On Monday 17th February, the Year 9 cohort took part in ProActivity throughout the day. The program aimed to foster connections through movement, providing an environment where students can develop socially, emotionally, and creatively. The workshop blends cognitive challenges, social interaction, and creative problem-solving in a lively and engaging active setting. Activities included Giant Scrabble, Rope Maze & Dot Matrix. Well done Year 9’s on your demonstration of positive teamwork and social inclusion. Keep up the great work!

Year 10
A flying start to the year has seen our amazing group of Year 10 students settle into their new classes well. It is the beginning of Senior School and Year 10 students have adapted well to new expectations as they prepare for their final years at Secondary School. This includes a range of new and exciting electives with an increase of pace in lessons. Students are indicating to Home Group teachers that their workload is beginning to increase in complexity. The year level leader teams have received positive feedback from students who have noted that meeting new students and new teachers in their 2025 classes has been a highlight.
One of the notable classes has been the PE program on Thursday afternoons where students have been split into several different activity groups. These include Spin classes, Lawn Bowls, SEPEP tournament games, boxing, fitness and more! Students have taken on the new PE structure with ease, even in hot summer conditions.
Year 10 Camp to Phillip Island is also approaching fast and will take place on 22nd – 24th April in week 1 of Term 2. The compass event is now live for parents to consent to, and more details will be shared soon to students and parents/care takers.
