JOHN TRAN - CLASS of 2013

As a student, John Tran always had a passion for the Business world, evident by the fact that in Year 12, he was one of the two Business Student Leaders. Studying Legal Studies, Justice, Philosophy, and English Language, John praised the support and guidance of Vivienne McElwee, Deb Hanlen, Daniel Webster, and Jenni Howard, who nurtured his interest in the Business world. 

John feels that his education at Sandringham College has given him the resilience to overcome adversity and embrace lifelong learning, John is confident in knowing that he has the knowledge and support of his fellow peers and mentors. 

His success in VCE allowed him to pursue his dream of studying Commerce at Melbourne University, majoring in Accounting and Finance. Notable Sandringham College Alumni: Hugh Griffiths (Dux 2004), Taylor Nugent (Dux 2012) and Callum McCombe (Dux 2013) have been excellent role models for John.

Having previously worked for Ernst and Young and Judo Bank, John develop his skills to become a CFA Charterholder, a Chartered Accountant and a Registered Tax Agent.

John now works for SpinifexIT, a software business specializing in HCM and Payroll, John is flourishing in his role as a Senior Financial Planning Analyst. He achieves a high level of satisfaction working across departments and geographies and guiding stakeholders in analyzing and planning the business's finances.

He enjoys interacting with different stakeholders and working with colleagues around the world, including Europe, America, and the Philippines. John’s key aspiration is to become a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) one day.

He advises current senior students to pursue a profession that they love and for those interested in chasing a similar dream in accounting and finance - to instil a sense of continuous professional learning, responsible management of finances and to tailor their recommendations to the audience and context. He notes that ‘a real sense of accomplishment is experienced’ when you leave a positive impact on stakeholders.

John was always a hardworking, diligent student driven by a desire for success. Coupled with his thoughtful and considerate nature, his stakeholders are in good hands!
