Acting College Principal

Every new beginning

As we wrap up another busy year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the journey we've all shared together and look ahead to the exciting possibilities the break and new term will bring. At our school, we’ve been focused on creating a sense of belonging — a place where everyone can feel seen, heard, and valued. It’s through belonging that we find strength and motivation to grow, both in and out of the classroom.  It is a journey piece for us, and we take gentle but determined steps forward each year.

The start of a new term or year always feels like a fresh chapter. As Semisonic’s famous lyric from their song Closing Time reminds us, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.” This simple truth captures the essence of what it means to embrace change and to step forward with renewed energy and purpose. Whether you’re in Year 8 and just starting to get used to being the leaders of your campus or in Year 12 with expectations starting to rise as next year’s exams get closer and closer, this season is an opportunity to reflect on how far you’ve come and to set your sights on what lies ahead.

Growth and preparedness for next steps is at the heart of everything we do here. It’s about challenging yourself, trying new things, and stepping out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s in your studies, your extracurricular activities, or your personal life, every step forward — no matter how small — contributes to the person you are becoming. Growth doesn’t always happen overnight, and it often requires patience, resilience, and a willingness to learn from both successes and setbacks.

As we approach the break, it’s also a time to remember the importance of rest. You’ve worked hard, whether in your academic studies, on your sport, or in your creative pursuits. Now, it’s time to recharge. Rest is not just about relaxing; it’s about giving yourself the space to reset, so you can come back even stronger for the term ahead. The break is an opportunity to find balance, to focus on well-being, and to spend quality time with friends, family, or even just enjoying some quiet moments on your own.

Remember, growth isn’t just about how much you can do or achieve; it’s also about recognizing when to pause and care for yourself. So, take this time to relax, reflect, and restore — knowing that when you return, you’ll be ready for whatever new beginnings and challenges come your way.

Enjoy the break, take care of yourselves, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting term of learning, growth, and belonging!

Student Leaders 2025

After what has been a somewhat historic student leadership process for the College, with a record number of applicants, a written application process, an interview and a final all-school vote, I would like to celebrate both the amazing class of 2025, and the Sandringham College School leaders for 2025.

In what was an amazing field of young leaders we have two School Captains: Loa Hostein and Will Ramsden.

The leadership executive will also be made up of 3 vice captains: Liv Brostek, Sophia Edwards and Patrick Wells.

My congratulations goes out to all involved with the process.

Loa Hostein

Dear Sandringham College Community,

Hi there! My name is Loa Hostein, and I am truly honoured and proud to serve as one of your School Captains for 2025. I’m so excited to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community, working alongside all of you, to make this year one to remember.

I started my school journey at Hampton Primary School and have truly cherished my time at Sandringham College. From my early days as a peacemaker in student leadership and performing in the school musical, to now, where I’m driven by my passion for creativity and making my own positive impact, I’ve been left with experiences that have truly resonated with me. I’m incredibly proud to be part of this community and excited to continue my leadership journey in my final year of school, alongside you all.

As we start this exciting new chapter, my focus as captain is to encourage collaboration, inclusion, and opportunities for everyone regardless of titles. As a dancer, I know how important it is to work together and celebrate our individual strengths, and whether you're into sports, arts, academics, or clubs, my goal is to amplify your voices and celebrate the unique contributions that make our school truly special.

This year, let’s support each other, embrace new challenges as a school, and celebrate everything that makes Sandringham College unique. Together, we can accomplish amazing things and foster an environment where everyone feels valued and as though they truly belong.

With gratitude and excitement,

Loa Hostein

School Captain, Sandringham College.

Will Ramsden

Hey everyone!

My name is Will Ramsden, and I am incredibly excited and honoured to serve as Sandringham College’s 2025 School Captain! I can’t wait to work alongside my fellow captains, as well as all students and staff, as we embark on what promises to be a great year.

My educational journey began just down the road at Sandringham East Primary School before I joined Sandy College in Year 7. In Year 9, I had the privilege of being the Bluff Road Campus Captain. After that, I took a step back from formal leadership to focus on personal growth. Now, I’m absolutely thrilled to return in 2025 and give back to the community that has given me so much.

As your captain, my vision is to create an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring school culture by empowering greater student voice and agency. Together, we can create an environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged to thrive.

This year holds special significance for our college, as it marks the first time we will have four year levels at the Holloway Road Campus. This transition calls for all of us—not just the formal leaders—to embody respect, integrity, creativity, excellence, and community. By embracing these values, we can make this milestone year truly memorable and successful.

With appreciation and enthusiasm,

Will Ramsden

2025 Sandringham College School Captain

Sofia Edwards

Dear Sandringham College community, I’m so proud to introduce myself as one of your Vice Captains for 2025. Leadership has always been a passion of mine, one that I  explore through my undertaking of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, my work as a weekly volunteer Cubs Scout Leader, and through my years of involvement with the Sandringham student leadership team.

My role in this position is simple and clear; to propose, advocate for, and implement the changes you want to see.  What drives me most is the belief that we can always change our surroundings—and that change starts with all of us. As your Vice Captain, my goal is to ensure your voices are heard and your ideas are transformed into actions that make a tangible difference. I want to hear what you think will make Sandringham even better, and I’m here to advocate for those changes.

I’m honoured to have this opportunity to serve you, and am excited for the year ahead.

Sofia Edwards

Patrick Wells

My name is Patrick Wells and I am excited to serve as one of this year’s vice-captains. I am eager to explore some of the new opportunities that are arising this year, and to work with the other captains to deliver a more positive and supportive community. This year will mark a significant turning point in the way student leadership is operated, and together we school captains will help lead everyone to a more engaging Sandy environment for students, staff and everyone else involved with the school.

For a bit of context about myself, I have been a student of Sandringham College since year 7, and have tried to enjoy every opportunity that the school has to offer. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the SEAL program and Sports Academy, as well as taking leadership roles every year. I am dedicated to my studies and I am dedicated to the school, and will try my utmost to do as much for the school as I can, alongside the other captains.

A main focus for all the captains is to focus on the school community, and the school environment. For me in particular I wish to focus on further developing the student leadership at Sandy, to develop our young leaders and to get people engaged, so that the student experience is more than fulfilling. By the end of the year, I hope that students will be comfortable suggesting ideas to their student representatives, who will be committed to implementing that suggestion, to then improve the school.

Let us make the most of 2025, and welcome the new year with an enthusiasm to take every opportunity and to make good change, together, as a community. I can’t wait to see what incredible things we can achieve at Sandringham College.

Patrick Wells

Livia Brostek

To the Sandringham College Community,  Hi! My name is Liv, and I have the privilege of stepping into the role of vice school captain this year. It’s an honour to represent such a welcoming and diverse school, and I’m looking forward to helping to create a meaningful and rewarding year.  My schooling journey began at Cheltenham Primary School, and my time at Sandringham College has been filled with opportunities and growth. I’ve always been proud to belong to this community.  As a part of our leadership team, our priority is to foster an environment where everyone feels valued and included, ensuring that everyone’s voices are heard. This year presents a chance for all of us to connect, take on new challenges, and celebrate the strengths of our school. I’m eager to see what we can accomplish together.

Warm regards,  Liv Brostek

Congratulations to all of our amazing young people on a historic set of results in 2024 across the entire school.  Take a look at the page '31' for more delightful details.

Great people leaving to do great things

Each year there is an inevitable turnover of staff at a college of this size. Although we hate to lose great people we know that they will move on to other schools and other places and share some of the great things that they have learned, lead, experienced here at Sandy. They will always be a part of our story and we wish them all the very best in the years to come.
