Student Leadership 2024

Tim Clifton - Learning Specialist for Student Voice and Agency

As we approach the end of the year, it has been an exciting and transformative time for student leadership at Sandringham College. We have said a heartfelt farewell to our outgoing Year 12 leaders, thanking them for their incredible contributions and wishing them all the best for their future endeavours. At the same time, we have welcomed a new team of student leaders who are ready to make their mark in 2025.

This year, we introduced the Sandringham College Vote, a celebration of student voice that saw our school community engaging in a democratic process to vote for student school leaders. Through this historic event, we ushered in our new School Captains and Vice Captains. A huge congratulations to these students on their appointments — we look forward to seeing their leadership in action.

We also welcomed our new Peer Support Leadership team, a group of dedicated Year 8 and Year 9 students who will play a vital role in supporting our incoming Year 7 cohort. These leaders will focus on fostering connection, community, and belonging, ensuring that our newest students feel supported as they transition into secondary school.

A special congratulations to this team for their commitment to making a difference.

Earlier this week the Peer Support Leaders participated in a training day in preparation for the state-wide orientation. During this session, they developed a range of leadership and facilitation skills that they will use as they lead a series of lessons and activities for the Year 7 students, both at the end of this year and into early 2025. Their dedication and preparation have been exceptional, and we can’t wait to see their impact.

Additionally, we have been thrilled by the overwhelming response to our student leadership applications for 2025, with over 115 students submitting applications. This remarkable level of engagement reflects the strength of student voice at Sandringham College. As we work through applications and interviews for various leadership roles, we are inspired by the passion and vision of our students. More information about the outcomes of these applications will be shared soon.

To all students who have applied, well done on putting yourselves forward — your enthusiasm and initiative are what drive our school’s vibrant community. Congratulations again to all our newly appointed leaders, and we look forward to an exciting year of leadership ahead in 2025.
