Celebrating Incursions and Community

As we come to the end of the year, we have been looking back on all the wonderful learning experiences the children have enjoyed at Serrell St Kindergarten. 

One of our achievements this year is that we introduced a range of exciting incursions to our kinder, including African Drumming and our Bee incursion. These special experiences added something new and meaningful to our program, giving the children opportunities to explore music, culture, and nature. By bringing these experts and hands-on activities into Serrell St Kindergarten, we were able to extend the children’s learning, spark their curiosity, and create memorable moments that they continued to talk about long after the sessions ended. 

The African Drumming incursion brought so much joy and energy into our kinder. The children loved listening to the different rhythms and having the chance to play real African drums. They explored loud and soft sounds, fast and slow beats, and learned how music can help us express our feelings. Drumming together also helped the children work as a team, listen to one another, and build confidence as they tried new things. 

Our Bee incursion gave the children a close-up look at the important role bees play in our world. They learned how bees make honey, how they help plants grow, and why it is important to protect them. The children were very curious and asked many thoughtful questions. This experience supported their understanding of nature, caring for living things, and looking after our environment. 

These incursions offered the children rich opportunities to explore music, culture, and science in meaningful and hands-on ways. We have seen the children’s curiosity, confidence, and sense of wonder grow through these experiences, and we are very proud of everything they have achieved. 

Looking ahead to next year, we hope to continue bringing more engaging and meaningful learning experiences to the children. We plan to explore new incursions, strengthen our connections with the community, and provide even more opportunities for the children to learn through play, discovery, and exploration.
