Celebrating Culture, Connection and Curriculum Growth at Glen Education Carnegie Kindergarten

This year, our team has proudly worked toward key curriculum goals especially in sustainability, active citizenship, and community engagement. Through everyday practice and shared experiences, we’ve created meaningful learning opportunities for children and families, while building a joyful, inclusive environment.
We’ve embedded sustainability into our daily routines by using natural materials, reusing resources, and encouraging children to care for the environment. Children collected leaves and sticks for creative experiences, reused containers, cutting up cardboard boxes for craft construction and even recycled artwork to wrap the children’s end-of-year gifts. These small but powerful actions helped children develop responsibility, curiosity, and environmental awareness.
As part of recognizing our Indigenous first nations people, we begin each morning with an Acknowledgement of Country, helping children understand respect for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and share gratitude for the land we learn on. This routine supports cultural awareness and builds a foundation of inclusiveness and care.
This year we also celebrated Holi and Diwali with great joy and colour. Educators and children dressed in traditional clothing, and the kindergarten was beautifully decorated with lights and handmade artwork. Children helped decorate the space and shared in the excitement of preparing sweets together.
We used henna patterns and made sweets biscuits with the children, which brought smiles and pride to their faces. These experiences helped children learn about cultural traditions, respect for others, and the joy of celebrating together. Diwali was not just a festival it was a shared moment of belonging and learning. These cultural celebrations helped children understand diversity, respect, and the importance of sharing traditions with others.
Our Bush Kinder sessions have been a highlight of the year. Children explored natural spaces, observed insects, and engaged in sensory-rich experiences like mud play and rolling on grass. These moments supported children’s confidence, risk-taking, and connection to Country.
We also celebrated birthdays together throughout the year. These moments created a strong sense of belonging and joy, helping children feel seen and valued in our community. We equally celebrate all the educational team, key support workers from Yooralla birthday’s which creates a great community work environment for our team.
Children also learn to show their love and care for each other. They were very happy to make a ‘get well soon card’ for one of their friends who was recovering at home.
Our kindergarten is located on a school site, which has allowed us to build a strong partnership with Carnegie Primary School. Children visited the school library to read books, and school students visited our kindergarten to share learning experiences, as part of our grade 5 buddy program. These interactions supported smooth transitions and helped children feel connected to the broader community.
We always maintain open communication with families, listening to their voices and building respectful relationships that supported each child’s learning journey now and into the future.

• Strengthen their sense of belonging and community connection
As we reflect on 2025 and look ahead to 2026, we are proud of our inclusive, nature-rich, and culturally responsive learning environment we’ve built together. Our team’s collaboration, care, and commitment continue to shape a space where every child can thrive.
