Visual Language Exploration
Year 11 Visual Communication Design
In Term 1, Year 11 Visual Communication Design (VCD) students explored the concept of visual language. In VCD, visual language refers to the ways ideas and information are communicated to an audience through visual elements. Students developed their understanding by experimenting with a range of media to create varied aesthetics and build their practical skills.
As part of this exploration, students rotated through a series of short, hands-on activities, spending 10 minutes at each station. At each station, they observed and drew a ‘found’ object using different media, including watercolour, coloured pencil, acrylic markers, fineliners and chalk pastels.
This engaging, fast-paced task allowed students to deepen their understanding of visual language techniques in VCD, while encouraging experimentation and creative thinking in their design work.
