Term 1 Wrap Up
Every school term brings its own challenges and opportunities for growth as we move through the weeks, and Term 1 has certainly been a significant one for Brighton Secondary College.
We began the year by welcoming our new Year 7 cohort into the College community, with the coffee morning, information night and camp providing valuable opportunities for students and families to connect, build relationships and begin their secondary school journey with confidence.
As always, the term has been full and varied. Highlights have included our swimming carnival, school photos, a range of engaging incursions, and the ongoing success of our interschool sports program. Alongside these events, we have also undertaken our school review process and supported our students through NAPLAN, both of which are important in guiding our continued improvement as a school.
Earlier this week we also held the Brighton SC Open Night, which is always such an incredible opportunity to showcase our wonderful school to the broader community. The evening was well attended by both current and prospective families, and it was fantastic to see our College so vibrant and full of energy. As always, one of the highlights of the evening was the involvement of our students, who generously volunteered their time to contribute to the success of the event.
We had students welcoming and registering families, supporting school tours, answering parent questions and assisting at various stations across the school. Our prospective parents consistently comment on how impressive our students are, and occasions like this reinforce the pride we have in the way our students present themselves and represent the College. Thank you to our entire community – students, parents and staff – for your support of this important event.
It would be remiss not to acknowledge that this term has also included some disruption, including industrial action by teachers. Throughout these moments, we have appreciated the understanding and support of our families and the professionalism of our staff as we have worked to minimise impact on student learning.
What stands out most across the term is the resilience, adaptability and commitment shown by our students and staff. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field or through co-curricular opportunities, there has been a strong sense of engagement and pride in our College.
As we move into the term break, we encourage all members of our community – students, staff and families – to take the opportunity to rest and recharge. Even for our Year 12 students, this is an important time to pause, reflect and prepare for the term ahead. Spending time with family and friends, and engaging in activities that support wellbeing, will ensure everyone returns refreshed and ready for Term 2.
We thank our entire College community for their ongoing support and contribution to a positive and productive start to the year, and we look forward to what Term 2 will bring.
