Year 10 VCE Preparation Science

Year 10 VCE Preparation Science students conducted experiments in the Chemistry topic, following the scientific method. They carried out practical investigations to observe different types of chemical reactions and to examine the rate of these reactions by following a given procedure. This is important in preparing them for their VCE senior years, as it helps them understand the structure and process of the scientific method.

Year 7 Science

Year 7 students began their science studies with the topic “Our Place in Space.” They explored concepts such as day and night, the yearly cycle, seasons, tides, and eclipses. As part of their assessment, they were required to develop a model to explain one of these topics.

Some students in 7 Eucalyptus extended their learning by creating more advanced and incredible models that explained one or more of these space science concepts. Meanwhile, other students chose to present their understanding by designing posters or creating presentations.

Bio Eyes Incursion

In our Bio Eyes incursion, we participated in an experiment focused on biomedical science, where we worked with zebrafish and their eggs. We carried out this activity with our classmates in 8 Fern, with guidance from two coordinators from Monash University. The experiment took place in our science room, which was specially set up for us to observe and collect two types of zebrafish in a container and allow them to breed.

During the process, we observed two types of zebrafish: wildtype and nacre. We were also able to examine their eggs and look inside them using a microscope. Also, we completed a booklet following the scientific method, recording our observations, and making conclusions. My main highlight of the sessions was using the microscope to closely study the tiny zebrafish eggs and their structures, which I found both fascinating and enjoyable.
