IDAHOBIT…WHAT A DAY! 🏳️‍🌈

On Monday 18th May, DHS celebrated the annual IDAHOBIT Day – international day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Phobia and Trans Phobia! Lunchtime consisted of bracelet making; knitting station; badge making; mindfulness colouring and of course students enjoyed some delicious snacks. Especially, the Fairy Bread was a hit treat and enjoyed by all! The day made staff and students connect; valued; and included in the community.

The celebration continued, Tuesday for a special breakfast, where we whipped up some rainbow pancakes and once again fairy bread made it on the menu – which students raved about how good brekkie club was!

A massive thank you to the Safe Space Team and for making the message of Inclusion and Pride at DHS so understood and celebrated every year!

All students who identify as LGBQTIA+ or those who are allies are welcome to attend each Monday lunchtime in Safe Space Room.

Career Expo!

On Tuesday 5th May the Wellbeing team were very fortunate to have a stall at the school’s Careers Expo, to showcase the Student Support Services Team; what we offer and inform students of the supports available for them. We even shared our career journey with students and gave them some tips! The atmosphere was spectacular, the students raved how fantastic it was, and we thank the Careers Team for inviting us along!

Elephant Ed Program

This week Year 8s were involved in Elephant Ed workshops where students learned:

What Respect and Consent is.
Respectful Relationships online and in person.
Practiced how to communicate feelings and boundaries in a respectful way.

THRIVE & CONNECT

The wellbeing team have for the third year now, continue to deliver Thrive & Connect Program to a group of students in Year 7 & 8 to increase their skills in communication; interacting with others; emotional intelligence and how to respond in conversation; whilst using a variety of activities and games to enhance their social skills and confidence. This program wouldn’t be successful without the support of the Learning Intervention Officers that assist these students in the classroom, and we appreciate you in this space.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast Club is back again this term and runs every Tuesday, Wednesday and we have added another day, so we’ll see us on Thursday from 8am until 8.45am in Jacaranda.

We have had quite a large turn out each morning which is great to see. We have a great selection of food available for all students. Why not come in have something to eat so your belly is full and ready to learn!

SPORTING CHANGE

Sporting change continues to run this term, for students as participate in a range of activities including basketball, soccer, volleyball and so many more and get learn about the law.

The beauty about this program is that is for FREE. The program runs after school every Thursday from 3:30pm-5pm in the gym and snacks are provided!

We will disseminate very handy information, resources, tips, stratgies as required, through varies college portal, so that students and families can access support as they require. There are many more exciting things to come, so keep a look out on compass newsfeed, emails, college website and the socials.

Big Freeze @ DHS

One of our very own team members – Sebastian will be participating in the “Big Freeze @ DHS” as part of a fundraising initiative in support of FightMND, during lunchtime on 4th June.

He is a very brave and willing team member to volunteer for an ice bucket challenge. Students will earn the opportunity to tip a bucket of ice water over participating staff through their fundraising efforts.

This is a great opportunity to engage our students, raise awareness and support an important cause, all while having some fun.

Welcome all to the first ever Inclusion Team Department news, where we will provide updates, information, resources and see all the wonderful things the team are doing and planning at Dandenong High School.

THRIVE & CONNECT PROGRAM…..

The Inclusion and Wellbeing teams couple of years ago came together to discuss what programs would some students may be part of, so they can develop a variety of skills and learn and adopt in their everyday lives.

Then we saw the development of the Thrive & Connect program, and in its third year in a row now, we continue to deliver this program. This time, it’s to a group of students in Year 7s & 8s, to increase their skills in communication; interacting with others; emotional intelligence and how to respond in conversation; whilst using a variety of activities and games to enhance their social skills and confidence.

This program wouldn’t be successful without the support of our wonderful Learning Intervention Officers that assist these students in the classroom, and we appreciate you in this space.
