Hakea House

Hi everyone, and welcome back to Term 2!

For those who don’t know me, I’m Diya, your Year 11 Hakea SRC. I extremely enjoy being part of the Student Representative Council and the opportunity to connect with people across the school and help our community flourish, filled with students that feel supported, included, and genuinely involved. I also want everyone to know that you can always come and talk to me if you have any ideas, concerns, or suggestions, because I really value hearing different perspectives and constantly finding ways that we can help our school community to prosper together.

I hope everyone has a restful break and is energised to take on the term ahead because there is a very busy term ahead of us. Near the start of Term 2 we had the ANZAC Assembly, it was a meaningful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served and continue to serve our country. I think our school community showed a great deal of respect throughout the assembly, and it was important for us to come together to recognise and show gratitude for those who gave so much for others. ANZAC Day is not only a time to remember their contributions, but also to honour the values of the bravery and selflessness that they represented.

For this Term's charity and fundraising, Hakea will be focusing on helping children in Australia. We will be running a lot of fun activities in Hakea, one of them being “Tattoo a teacher” and much more exciting things to come. I request everyone to come and try at least one of the activities.

The main highlight of this term will be the House Chorales Competition which is taking place on June 11th. I have been part of the House Chorales for 4 years now and I can guarantee that this will be loads of fun. Don’t be afraid to sing because we will all be singing as one voice. Teamwork and unity is one of the key attributes for a student and this is your chance to be part of a team. Hakea has already started having lunch time sessions so please come along and be part of our amazing Hakea Choir.

Later this year, we have the Athletics Carnival on the 18th of August. I hope that everyone participates representing their House. You don’t have to win to earn your House points, just being a part of any sport in the carnival ensures that your House gets points.

Lastly, I would like to encourage everyone to continue being supportive and inclusive this term. Small things like checking in on people, including others, and showing kindness genuinely makes our school community stronger.

Thank you everyone, and hopefully we can all make this term a memorable one.
