Year 10 Future XP

Future XP is a Year 10 work experience opportunity that took place at the end of Term 1. It is designed to give students hands-on exposure to a range of industries through interactive workshops and real-world learning experiences. The program provided valuable insight into what different career pathways involve, helping students better understand the skills, expectations, and possibilities within various fields.

This year, students engaged with 16 different providers representing a diverse range of industries, participating in 30 hands-on workshops, as well as an excursion to Moorabbin Airport. These experiences allowed students to explore multiple career pathways in a practical and meaningful way.

Most students embraced this opportunity, with some coming away from it already having a clear idea of their intended VCE or VETDSS pathway for Year 11. For these students, Future XP offered a chance to confirm and strengthen their choices through real-world exposure. For others, it provided a valuable opportunity to explore a range of interests and narrow their focus, bringing them closer to identifying potential future careers.

By engaging directly with industry professionals and immersive activities, students are supported to make more informed decisions about their post-school pathways. The Future XP experience plays an important role in helping students take the next step towards shaping their future with confidence and clarity.

2026 Career Expo

On Tuesday May 5th, Dandenong High School proudly hosted its annual Careers Expo, welcoming approximately 35 exhibitors from a wide range of industries and organisations. Throughout the day, students in Years 9–12 connected with providers and learned about the many pathways available to them beyond school.

The expo was designed to showcase a broad range of future opportunities and support students in making informed decisions about their pathways. Exhibitors represented diverse sectors including TAFE and university providers, first responders, the arts, sporting institutes, travel and work opportunities, employment agencies, mental health and youth services, recreation organisations, and legal services.

It was wonderful to see so many students actively engaging with exhibitors throughout the day. The atmosphere in the gym was vibrant, with students enthusiastically asking questions, exploring opportunities, and learning more about the many pathways available to them beyond school. Many exhibitors commented on how respectful, curious, and enthusiastic our students were, while students themselves gave the experience rave reviews. Many were particularly grateful for the time and expertise exhibitors shared in discussing industries, organisations, and career pathways.

We sincerely thank all exhibitors for their support and contribution in making the event such a valuable experience for our students.

Students are encouraged to connect with the Careers team in Jacaranda for accurate and up-to-date advice on career pathways and subject selection. The team is also available to clarify common misconceptions about subject requirements and provide clear, reliable guidance to support confident decision-making.

Victorian Tunelling Excursion

As  part of our  Year 10 Gateway program, we visited the Victorian Tunnelling Centre.

We started off the day with a safety induction and received our own hard hat and hi-vis vest. We learnt about the Northeast link and how it costs $26 billion. We went for a tour and experienced a safety glass simulator and air compression simulator. Followed by entering a mine where we entered a refuge chamber, where it would hold up to 20 people and can last three days.

Next, we went to a room and put on harnesses where we got to climb to the top of scaffolding. If we made it all the way to the we got to ring a bell.

Lastly, we got to see the VR area where they practice putting out fires and driving machinery.

All in all, it was heaps of fun and interesting, especially the money you can make.
