Model United Nations

Our school recently had the privilege of hosting a Model United Nations conference, welcoming students from Trafalgar High School, Dromana College, Hampton Park Secondary College, Fountain Gate Secondary College and Cranbourne East Secondary College to engage in debates surrounding women’s rights. Throughout the day, delegates represented different countries, delivered speeches, negotiated resolutions and collaborated to find solutions that would satisfy all conutries. The conference provided students with an opportunity to develop their public speaking, critical thinking and leadership skills while gaining a deeper understanding of global crises. It was inspiring to see students respectfully (and sometimes disrespectfully) challenge ideas and work together towards common goals. OVerall, Model United Nations was extremely insightful and entertaining.

On Wednesday 20th of May, Dandenong High School hosted the Model United Nations.

Enough is Enough: Ending Violence Against Women was the topic of this assembly, and it was very clear that the delegates of the representing countries, had enough. It was super exhilarating to see so many passionate students working cooperatively and using their critical thinking skills to represent their countries, while (respectfully) rebutting other nations.

Students from Dandenong Highschool interacted with students from many different schools including Hampton Park Secondary, Cranbourne East Secondary and Dromana Secondary, presenting a hospitable and welcoming environment for our guests. During the tea and lunch break, students from Dandenong mingled our guests, negotiating, debating and most of all having fun.

The Model United Nations was a great opportunity for students across all year levels to noy only interact with each other but also develop critical thinking skills, debating skills and public speaking. While modelling a scaled down version of the real United Nations Assembly, the students demonstrated the power of how working together, respectfully challenging and negotiating can help to achieve shared resolutions. If anything, working together as part of a delegation on behalf of a country helped students to realise the important of teamwork and recognition of collective efforts.

Dandenong High School offers a special thanks to who acted as our Honourable Secretary-General for helping facilitate this event, Ms Z as well as the

organisation who helped this day

come to reality. It was truly a unique experience which displayed how the cooperation of different nations helps to build a more sustainable future while encouraging us to be a part of that effort.

Mock Trial!

On the 8th of May the 12LEG3 class participated in a mock trial. The mock trial saw Miss Zahirovic sue Mahadia (H12) for the tort of nuisance. Legal teams for both the plaintiff and the defendant put together evidence, statements and witnesses. Our key witnesses included Mr Beattie, Mr Greaves, Mr Dowsing and even Mr Dewar!

Unfortunately for the plaintiff, Miss Zahirovic, her legal team did not win, and the judge, The Honourable Justice Ishika (from the Senior Study Centre) found the defendant and her team won and found that she was, in fact, not a nuisance.

Well done everyone!
