Congratulations are in order

It was with great excitement and pride that we gathered as a school today to celebrate the academic achievements of students across their Semester One courses at our two Academic Awards Assemblies. We are very blessed to use St George’s Cathedral for the location of so many of our important events.

Over a St George’s student’s time at the school, many significant and formative experiences take place in this hallowed space. This encompasses not just our big celebratory events, like Awards Assemblies and Presentation Evening, but also includes our weekly Chapel services where our Year 10, 11 and 12 students meet for worship and reflection on Mondays, and Year 7, 8 and 9 students have a similar opportunity on Thursdays.

The younger of our St George’s students have taken the new transition arrangements between our two campuses completely in their stride, managing the commute between Murray Street and William St with maturity, stoicism and a strong sense of community. We are confident that they are ready to start making their own way to our chapel services as well, embracing whole-heartedly our byline “the city is our campus”.

From this week, all students are now extended the responsibility and privilege to move between both school campuses and the Cathedral for our regular services without direct class teacher supervision.

Whilst Year 10, 11 and 12 students have been enjoying this privilege since the start of the year, this is a new initiative for our Junior students who have now found their feet in navigating the city safely and responsibly. Junior students will no longer need to report to a classroom teacher for attendance at school and then be walked to the Cathedral. Instead, staff and students will proceed there together at the end of lunch and attendance will be taken at the Cathedral, prior to the commencement of the service, across both our Junior and Senior students.

This is a brave new world for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students, one which they will conquer with aplomb.
