Anglicare Ambassadors

School holidays in Samoa

Over the school holidays, two of our Year 10 students, Ella Moffat and Jonty Keys, had the opportunity to participate in the All Saints Samoa Service-Learning Trip - an immersive experience that allowed them to connect with the Samoan community, explore its rich culture, and engage in meaningful service projects.

The trip, which was part of AngliSchools' commitment to offering unique learning experiences, provided students with the chance to support local students at All Saints Anglican School in Apia. Students also participated in coral reef conservation activities, visited important cultural sites, and had the opportunity to immerse themselves in traditional Samoan customs.

Here, Ella tells The Dragon all about the trip:

“The Samoa trip was an amazing experience all round. I loved connecting with the local community, learning about their culture, and getting involved at the primary school – the latter being a definite highlight. Staying at Lalomanu Beach Resort was also a fun part of the trip, with a great beach and cultural dancing at night. The beaches and snorkelling were unforgettable, and Samoa as a whole was beautiful with warm weather, clear water, and amazing people.

Some of my favourite moments were the long car rides around the island, where we got to really get to know others on the trip. That experience, along with the night-time hangouts before bed, allowed me to form so many friendships with people from all over Australia. It was such a fun, eye-opening, and rewarding trip. I highly recommend the Samoa Trip to anyone who wants to make new friends, immerse themselves in a different culture, and take part in some incredible activities. It is a great opportunity, and I would encourage all students to go for it if they ever get the chance.”

The Samoa trip proved to be more than just a travel experience – it was an opportunity for personal growth, cultural exchange, and community service.

We are excited to announce that another group of six Year 9 students will embark on a similar adventure during the Term 3 school holidays, and we look forward to hearing their reflections on this incredible journey.

Hoodies for Homelessness

On Tuesday 29 July, our students and staff proudly took part in Hoodies for Homelessness Day, wearing hoodies over their formal uniforms to raise awareness and much-needed funds for youth homelessness in Western Australia.

This initiative supported Anglicare WA’s Street Connect service, which provides outreach, support, and pathways for young people aged 15–25 who are sleeping rough. The service operates entirely on donations, making community support like ours vital to its continued work.

We are thrilled to share that the school raised a total of $659.20. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed – every donation helps provide safety, hope, and support to vulnerable young people in our state.

The campaign does not stop there. In Week 3, nine of our committed Year 10 Anglicare Ambassadors will take part in the Optus Sleep Out, giving up the comfort of their warm beds to sleep at Optus Stadium. This powerful event will offer them first-hand insight into the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and will further support the fundraising efforts for Street Connect.

If you would like to support our students and contribute to this cause, donations can be made via the link below: Team St George's - School Sleep Out 2025

Together, our school community continues to make a real difference – thank you for your ongoing support.
