Year 7 and 8:
As we reach the conclusion of Term and reflect on a successful semester of learning, I would like to acknowledge and commend all Year 7 and 8 students for their continued efforts to ‘Strive and Achieve’ and work towards their personal best.
The release of semester reports provides a valuable opportunity for students and families to celebrate achievements, recognise growth, and reflect on areas for continued development. We encourage parents and students to take the time to discuss these reflections together and set meaningful goals for continued progress and success in the semester ahead.
Proactive Policing - Presentation to Year 7 and 8s
The Year 7 and 8 cohorts had a presentation from Victoria Police's Proactive Policing Unit. The Proactive Policing Unit are members of Victoria Police whose focus is to educate young people and promote positive interactions between young people, the police, and the broader community. The purpose of this presentation was to educate students in regard to the serious nature and consequences of a number of anti-social behaviours, including racist and defamatory language, inappropriate social media use, and use of hate speech online. This will be further supported by a presentation by cyber-safety expert Brett Lee early in Term 3.
These presentations are an important supplement to the curriculum provided in our Health classes, and we look forward to reflecting on them further during tutor group sessions.
Year 7 Dodgeball tournament Winners!
After weeks of action-packed lunchtime matches on Mondays, the Term 2 Year 7 Dodgeball Tournament came to an exciting conclusion this week! Tutor groups battled it out with great energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. The Grand Final saw 7G take on 7D in a thrilling contest, with 7G emerging as the champions. Congratulations to both finalists for their outstanding efforts and to all Year 7 students who participated. It was fantastic to see such strong involvement, enthusiasm, and school spirit across the year level!
Ancient Egypt Exhibition
A huge thank you to our Year 7 History teachers, Nicole Thorne and Glen Peters, for their dedication and enthusiasm in inspiring our Year 7 students to explore the fascinating ‘Wonders of Egypt’.
Students worked incredibly hard to research, develop and present their learning through a lunchtime expo, showcasing their knowledge in creative and engaging ways for their audience. It was wonderful to see students take pride in their work, share their discoveries, and bring history to life through their displays and presentations.
Please enjoy the student reflection below from Vienn, Grace, Stella and Zoe (7D), who share their experiences of this exciting learning opportunity.
Student Report:
Parkdale Secondary College held an exhibition called ‘The Wonders of Egypt’ for all Year 7 History classes. There were many different groups doing different topics on Ancient Egypt. Each group worked very hard to produce something interactive, something informative, and an artefact or object based on their group topic. These were put on display for people to see as they walked around the exhibition. Those who attended the exhibition were allowed to vote for what they thought was the best exhibit.
The winners were as follows:
1st place to Victoria, Ari and Natsumi from 7F;
2nd place to Vienn, Grace, Stella and Zoe from 7D and Ava and Ava from 7H (a tie!)
3rd place went to Isla, Chloe and Asta from 7D.
Congratulations to all the Winners. Our topic was the Pyramids, and for this we made a pyramid model, a poster and a mini golf course based in Egypt. Other groups made posters, slideshows, models and much more.
