Assistant Principal Report
Year 9 and 10/Engagement
by Aaron Petersen
As we close another term, it is an opportunity to recognise the efforts and accomplishments of our Year 9 and 10 students. In the coming weeks, we will formally recognise students from both year levels who have earned academic endeavour and academic excellence awards. For now though,
Exams
Congratulations to our Year 10 students, who have completed their first examination period. Leading up to the exams, students prepared diligently at home and during after-school Study Slam sessions. Teachers noted the strong preparation and focus ahead of the two-week exam window.
Year 9 Drama
There was order in the court last week as our Year 9 Drama class took to the stage to present their production of Once Upon a Crime: The Trial of Goldilocks. The performance was a fast-paced, riotous comedy featuring a cast of beloved fairy tale characters taking the witness stand, and our students handled the complex comedic timing and stage presence like seasoned professionals. This production marks the first time students from this year level have tackled a play of this scale.
The Year 9 cast delighted some of our youngest critics, including visiting students from local primary schools and the kindergarten. Similarly, a packed house of proud family members, friends, and staff showered the cast and crew with well-deserved applause.
Beyond the brilliant performances on stage, students were heavily involved in the technical and backstage elements that kept the show running seamlessly. The creativity, energy, and maturity displayed by the Year 9 Drama class throughout this entire process has set a fantastic new benchmark for our performing arts program.
Parky’s Big Give
When SVAC first set out to plan this year’s Big Give, they set a target of $1,000. I am delighted to report that we completely SMASHED our goals.
Our online donations reached $1,842. Combined with our Casual Clothes Day ($1,321), we have passed $3,000 raised for FightMND.
We also collected a further $1,156 from last week’s Big BBQ to support our school musical.
Thank you to the staff, students and volunteers who supported the event in such an energised way, whether they were setting up equipment, cooking sausages, filling buckets or bravely copping a bucket. While the money and awareness raised is significant, seeing students and staff come together for a great cause was the real highlight.
Course Selection
As our students prepare for 2027, we will host two important course selection information evenings next month. These sessions are designed to guide families through the subject selection process and outline the academic structures for next year. Attendance is a key part of the subject selection process. We request that each student attend alongside a parent or guardian.
Further detailed information regarding both evenings will be communicated to families shortly. For now, please secure these dates in your calendar to support your child's transition planning.
2027 Year 11 Information Evening
Tuesday 14 July, 6:30pm–7:30pm
Following this evening, individual course counselling meetings will be conducted with each student on Wednesday 29 July.
Monday 27 July, 6:30pm–7:30pm
2027 Year 10 Course Selection Information Evening
Year 10 Work Experience
This week, our Year 10 students completed their work experience placements, stepping out of the classroom and into local workplaces. These real-world opportunities are fundamental for personal and professional growth, and we sincerely hope each student found their placement enriching and eye-opening.
The feedback we've received about our student’s professionalism and enthusiasm has been outstanding. Local employers reported that our students displayed maturity and a strong work ethic. Whether tech firms, primary classrooms, or trades, we thank the local businesses that hosted our students for this 2026 block.
Mid-Year Music Soiree
Congratulations to the 38 students Year 9 and 10 who performed in our recent Mid-Year Music Soiree. These performances demonstrated the hard work, dedication, and musical skill of our participants. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the evening a success.
Uniform
As we move into the cooler months of the year, I would like to take a moment to reinforce the standards of our College dress code. Maintaining a high standard of uniform is essential to fostering a sense of pride, identity, and equality within our school community.
To ensure all students are meeting these expectations, we would like to highlight several key areas regarding the academic uniform:
Pants and Trousers
Students choosing to wear trousers must wear tailored navy dress pants. Trousers must be straight legged with no visible branding or logos.
Tracksuit pants are not to be worn with the academic jumper or shirt on regular school days. Tracksuit pants are reserved for Physical Education classes and designated sports days only.
Jumpers and Shirts
It is a requirement that the official College shirt must be worn underneath the College jumper/jacket.
The jumper/jacket is an optional outer layer and should not be worn as a standalone top.
We understand there may be rare circumstances where a student is unable to wear the full uniform. In these instances:
A written note from a parent or guardian must be provided.
Exemptions must be submitted directly to the relevant Year Level Coordinator, who will then issue an 'Out of Uniform' pass.
