Parents & Carers and BSC - a valuable partnership
Allison Berry
President - Parents' Association
The Parents' Association has been hard at it this term, starting with the great success of the Trivia Night, delivering another Second-hand Uniform Sale, and finishing on a huge high with the end of term Community Planting Day.
Thanks to the generous contributions to our fundraising coffers, the Parents' Association has realised one of its most ambitious projects this year!
Community Planting Day (September 14) saw an army of student, staff and family volunteers (with 19 families volunteering their help) rejuvenating the garden beds facing Dawson Street and Fallon Street. With magnificent weather favouring us - and boundless enthusiasm to-boot - the team executed the task in record time under the expert guidance of Jo Keeble (Charlie, Year 8). Over 200 plants were installed and we are excited to watch them grow!
Many thanks to Jo and Tended Earth, who leant expertise and experience to this project. It is expected that after further ground preparation is completed, more planting will be installed by the end of October!
If you haven't had a chance to see the transformation, we encourage you all to drop by and see how the new plantings have given the school a much-needed facelift!
Jo Keeble has written up the project on the Tended Earth website, and even Parents' Victoria is also keen to showcase our project. Perhaps we will find that our indomitable Brunswick Spirit will inspire other schools to go a little bit "wild" too!
We also take this opportunity to thank the many local individuals, businesses and organisations that have sponsored the Parents' Association's fundraising activities this year, as well as the families who have supported these events, such as Trivia Night and Uniform Sales.
Remember, wherever you can, please Support the businesses that support our school!
All funds raised are channelled back into projects (large and small) such as Community Planting Day, as well as additional school resources and programs including the Breakfast Club.
Families will see that we have put a shout out for a Cake Stall Coordinator for the Twilight Market event, and are inviting all and sundry to sign up for a shift at any of our stalls.
Parents' Association will host the cake stall, the second-hand uniform stall, a craft stall and more - so why not sign up? There are many ways to contribute to the success at BSC, so if you can donate an hour of your time it will be well spent!

Our Term 3 second-hand sale raised $1079 - with uniform sales having raised a total of $3527 this year to date. This is a tribute to the fabulous efforts of Karyn Di Florio and Gillian Ward, who take a little time each term to sort and store donated uniform items. With a small band of helpers, the team then execute uniform sales on the day - making uniform items conveniently available at a very reasonable cost for all families.
Sadly for us, Gill is moving on from BSC at the end of this year, so we are looking for a team player who can spare a few hours each term to work with Karyn to keep this project rolling to support the Parents' Association fundraising work.
Full training will be provided (and will take all of 5 minutes) and there is NO expectation to attend PA meetings.
