Taking care of business
Business Fair for Charity
On Friday 12th September, the Year 10 Commerce students transformed the A Block courtyard into a bustling marketplace for their Business Fair for Charity.
In groups, students designed, advertised, and sold their own products to the school community. Stalls offered a tempting variety of goods, including sausages, cakes, cookies, Zooper Doopers, lemonade, hot dogs, hoops prizes, and lolly pong. It was both a challenging and rewarding project, with plenty of laughs and a strong sense of teamwork along the way.
The school buzzed with excitement as posters and advertising built anticipation, and at lunchtime the courtyard quickly filled with eager customers from every year level. Despite a short rain interruption, most stalls sold out well before the end of lunch. The lively atmosphere gave the event a real market feel, with students calling out to customers and proudly promoting their products.
Reflecting on the day, students described the experience as:
The fair was not only a learning opportunity but also a chance to give back. Most groups made a profit, and together the students raised an impressive $326.25, which was donated to the Cancer Council to support skin cancer research and prevention.
The chosen charity came from the group with the largest profit on the day: Ely Burke. Ella Pleban, Charlie Pratley, Bryan Song and Cooper Timms.
This was a fantastic achievement for all involved, demonstrating creativity, entrepreneurial flair, and community spirit. Congratulations to the Year 10 Commerce students on their efforts, and a big thank you to Ray for setting up the trestle tables and BBQ—it wouldn’t have been the same without him!
