Hey everyone! We in SRC have been really busy this term planning our casual clothes days and events for the future. Make sure you reach out to your Year Level Reps if you have any ideas, questions or feedback to give to SRC!
The SRC is calling for stallholders to participate in this year's Twilight Market . If you know anyone who may be interested in staging a stall, please ask them to email their expression of interest to Lindel Bell on lbel@brunswick.vic.edu.au for consideration, and to include any details and/or photos of their stall/stock that may be pertinent. There are limited stall spaces available, so be quick!
This year, we are so excited that the amazing BSC Art & Design Exhibition will run in conjunction with the market!
This means that we can celebrate some of the fabulous work of our Art & Design students - showcasing it to a much wider audience, and giving it the kudos it really deserves!
The exhibition is always exciting and surprising - and we can't wait to see what amazing experiences it offers us all this year.
On behalf of the SRC, we take a moment to welcome the Art & Design faculty to the event, and to sincerely thank the staff for their enthusiasm and collaboration.
On Friday 29th of August we held our first casual clothes day of the term, commemorating Wear It Purple Day. Wear It Purple Day is a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, and aims to educate and inform on LGBTQIA+ issues in the pursuit of fostering a safe and empowering environment for queer young people. This year's theme is 'Bold Voices, Bright Futures', which aims to show the courage of speaking out on LGBTQIA+ issues and the many pathways for queer young people should we continue to advocate for progress and change. We are very thankful to have received a school pack of resources, including bracelets and stickers, which were handed out to students and staff alike throughout the week.
Last Thursday we observed R U OK Day with a casual clothes day. This day revolves around improving mental health and networks of support for all, encouraging all of us to ask "are you okay" and follow up if the response is negative. We were lucky to have representatives from Headspace and Merri-bek Council come along for extra support, and we raised $330 from our BBQ and Compass donations, bringing us closer to of our goal of $10,000.
As I'm sure you are all aware, three brave participants shaved their hair for leukemia on the 5th of September. Thank you to Marco, Ms Akhil and Mr Roach for volunteering for this wonderful cause, y'all are rocking these new cuts! And thank you to everyone who so generously donated to help us surpass our goal of $2,000 to raise a total of nearly $3500 for this cause.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual student forums, all recommendations have been compiled and presented, and we will update you on the actions taking place as a result. These forums are how we get feedback from students to improve the school environment with regards to various areas of concern, including teaching and learning, wellbeing and building and grounds. We compile this feedback anonymously, and action it through both short term fixes and long term projects. Stay tuned to see what we've changed as a result of these forums!
