International Success for Maiia

Brighton Secondary College is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Year 7 student Maiia, who recently represented Australia at two major international Taekwondo events on the Gold Coast.

Competing at the World Taekwondo (WT) President’s Cup Oceania 2026, Maiia delivered an exceptional performance to win the Gold Medal in the Cadet Female Under 51kg division. The prestigious event attracted some of the strongest Taekwondo athletes from across Australia, Oceania and beyond, making her victory an impressive accomplishment on the international stage.

Just two days later, Maiia competed in the Australian Open 2026, stepping up into the higher Cadet Female Under 55kg division. Despite facing larger and heavier opponents, she progressed through the competition to secure the Silver Medal, finishing as runner-up in a highly competitive field.

These latest results cap off an incredible year for Maiia, who has earned medals at local, state, national and international competitions. Her success reflects not only her talent, but also her dedication, resilience and commitment to excellence both on and off the mat.

As a second-year cadet athlete, Maiia continues to demonstrate remarkable determination and sportsmanship while performing at the highest levels of competition. The Brighton Secondary College community is incredibly proud of her achievements and congratulates her on this well-deserved international success.
