Year 10 School Canteen Documentary

Lights, Camera, Canteen!

Year 10 Media students recently stepped into the role of documentary filmmakers, creating a short documentary that explored one of the most familiar and valued spaces in our school community – the canteen.

As part of their Media studies, students were challenged to plan, film and edit a documentary that highlighted the important role the canteen plays in supporting students and staff each day. Central to their productions was Sue, our much-loved canteen manager, whose dedication, hard work and friendly personality have made her a familiar face to generations of students.

The project required students to apply a range of media production skills, including conducting interviews, capturing B-roll footage, planning shot compositions, recording audio and editing their footage into a compelling narrative. Students worked collaboratively in a production team, taking on roles such as director, camera operator, interviewer and editor.

The documentary showcased not only the technical skills students have developed throughout the semester but also their ability to tell authentic stories that celebrate the people who contribute to school life.
