Debating Finalists

Over the course of this semester, students from across years 9 to 12 participated in the Brighton region DAV Senior Debating competition. Through five rounds, students represented the school competing against other schools in the area.

The Brighton Secondary teams were made up of a large rotating roster, and each and every student who participated – whether it was for a single debate as a fill in for a friend or week in and week out as core part of a team – should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Our year 12 debating team – Jenny McLaughlin, Zoe Anzman, Alex Roselt, and Aarav Shah – swept their division, placing first with a perfect record of 20 points despite the fact that 3 of the 4 members were competing against students multiple years above them. They are soon headed to finals, to compete against the winners from other divisions around Victoria.

Our two year 11 teams finished a respectable 5th and 8th in their league of 20, with the former only narrowly missing out on finals by two points. Our year 9 and 10 team also put in a commendable effort, with many of the members debating for the first time.
