Swimming

The college would like to congratulate Sienna Barkei and Oscar Campbell in their tremendous swimming efforts so far this year. Both students are balancing year 12 and hours of swim training each week. Sienna and Oscar both took home four gold medals each at the Southern Metropolitan Region finals this term. Sienna also broke a 10-year-old record in 50m backstroke.

We wish both of them the biggest luck at Victorian state swimming in May!

Lawn Bowls

Sandringham College had 24 representatives at the Kingston lawn bowls competition in term one. The competition is split into Junior (Years 7-9) and Senior (Years 10-12). The college won both divisions. This saw our best junior and senior teams compete at the Southern Metropolitan Region finals in Mornington on Friday 21st March. Our junior team came second and our senior team came first.

Our senior team, Ben, Aidan, Hudson and Luke, are competing in the state finals in May.

The college would like to thank Mr Hiotis for coaching the team. We would also like to acknowledge the support our team has been given by Black Rock Sports Club. They provided greens for our students to practise on and some specialised coaching.

Student Coaches

It's been great to have year 12 students commit to coaching our Year 7, 8 and Intermediate teams this term. These senior students have given up their lunch times and full days of school to lead our teams. This is a great opportunity for any student who wishes to polish their leadership and communication skills.

If you think you could coach or assistant coach a team, please express your interest to Ms Carter via email: erin.carter@education.vic.gov.au

Grants

The college was been awarded some funds through the AFL Schools scheme to help pay for a Casual Relief Teacher when our AFL teams compete in Term 2. This will allow us to have an extra staff member at Year 7, 8, Intermediate or Senior football. While this grant is small, it will benefit our AFL program greatly.
