Term 1 has been a huge success across the ADT domain, with an exciting range of subjects, projects, and creative opportunities for students at all year levels. From hands-on art creation to digital media exploration, students have been developing key skills that will serve as the foundation for their future work.
In Year 7 Art, students have been delving into colour theory, applying their knowledge through acrylic painting to create artworks inspired by the vibrant style of Australian artist Howard Arkley. This exploration of colour relationships, such as complementary and monochromatic schemes, allows students to develop both their technical skills and artistic expression.
Year 8 Visual Communication Design students have been tackling a real-world design project: creating water bottle labels tailored to a specific audience. They’ve explored the design process, from research and idea generation to refining concepts, while also learning the basics of Adobe Illustrator. Year 8 Multimedia students are engaging with social media by creating a short film titled ‘Generation LIKE,’ exploring how digital media shapes their generation. They’ve worked on scripting, storyboarding, and editing to convey their message effectively.
In Year 9 Art, students have taken on the challenge of two-colour reduction linocut printmaking, developing skills in carving, design planning, and colour application. This hands-on project encourages creativity and precision as they bring their designs to life. Year 9 Visual Communication Design students have been experimenting with environmental design by repurposing a shipping container into a functional living or working space, considering both practical and aesthetic challenges. Meanwhile, Year 9 Photography students have been mastering DSLR camera functions and photographic techniques, capturing creative and technically proficient images. Year 9 Media students have learned about advertising through creating commercials, developing skills in video editing, storytelling, and audience engagement.
Year 10 students are diving into more complex projects. In Visual Communication Design, they are designing playful furniture inspired by candy, focusing on the impact of design on emotional well-being. Photography students are enhancing their skills in digital portrait photography, learning to capture and edit portraits with DSLR cameras. In Art, students have been experimenting with a variety of painting techniques, exploring both contemporary and traditional styles to inform their own artistic expression. Media students are working on creating a short film scene, focusing on analysis, pre-production planning, filming, and post-production editing. Finally, Applied Computing students are developing solutions using Microsoft Excel, creating IPO charts, flowcharts, and formulas to analyse data.
This term has been made even more remarkable by the commitment of our staff. Teachers across the ADT domain have gone above and beyond to support and challenge students, providing them with engaging, creative, and hands-on learning experiences. Their dedication to fostering both technical and creative skills has been evident in every lesson, as they continually offer guidance, feedback, and encouragement to help students succeed. The teamwork and passion of the ADT staff have truly made this term a success, and we look forward to more great work in the future.
We look forward to seeing how their learning continues to evolve throughout the year!
