What a huge Term 1 we have had! A big thank you to all the staff and students for what has been a great start to the year.

Sandringham College's 2025 musical is...

We have started preparations for a ‘tale as old as time!’ 🌹🎵

Students have truly outdone themselves in this year’s school musical auditions. We had over 120 students audition, and their talent, dedication, and hard work were on full display as they showcased their vocal, acting, and dancing abilities.

Each student brought something unique to the table, delivering outstanding performances that impressed everyone in the room. It’s clear that the cast is going to be full of incredible talent, and we’re so excited to see how their passion and effort translate into an unforgettable show!

See who's who in our 2025 show here:

If you have signed up for the crew, we will be in contact at the very beginning of Term 2 to let you know what roles we have up for grabs and if you haven't yet signed up, please feel free to do so here. It's not too late!

Scripts and musical scores will be provided to leads in Term 2 and rehearsals will kick off around week 4, held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with some Sundays in Term 2 and 3 as well.

Cast will be added to the 2025 Musical Team on Microsoft Teams by the end of the term but in the meantime, any questions can be addressed to Ms. Laura Washington (Director), Mr. Tim Clifton (Musical Director) or Ms. Heather Fehring (Production Manager).

VCE Theatre Studies - Clowning & Comedy Excursion

On Thursday 27th March, a group of excited VCE students met at the Chapel Off Chapel theatre in Prahran, ready for an evening of entertainment. The show in question was a contemporary interpretation of a classic Victorian morality tale: Jekyll & Hyde... only this production was presented by A Slightly Isolated Dog - a 'very French' troupe of actors who like to do things differently. With a wonderful mishmash of clowning, vaudevillian and cabaret-style content, commedia dell'arte conventions and many comedy techniques, the cohort was in for a real treat.

This experience was designed to expose students to innovative ways of constructing stories and real-life application of the theory we explored in class. We have been exploring aspects of the script, learning about comedic skills and clowning principles, and the students were also prepared for LOTS of audience interaction!

In the new study design, there is a greater focus on audience culture, so this excursion presented a great opportunity for students to see this in action and understand ideas such as actor-audience relationships, immersive experiences, endowment and audience participation.

Several courageous students volunteered to be involved in key moments of the show, responding to performers, helping to make the potion that Dr Jekyll drinks to transform into his alter-ego Mr Hyde, and everyone in the small black box theatre became the 'thick fog that blanketed the streets'! I'd be remiss not to mention a most excellent and highly dramatic death, improvised by Rachel Tusia, on stage. Even some of the teachers attending were called upon to be involved in the story.

We all loved seeing Jekyll & Hyde so much, all the actors were brilliant and we were in stitches the entire time. Endless thanks to Laura and co for taking us and 'A Slightly Isolated Dog' for putting on such an amazing performance!

I was so impressed with the ways in which these wonderful young people conducted themselves on this excursion.  They brilliantly demonstrated the schools values through creative responses and showcasing our strong sense of community  - Sandringham were even given a shout out in the show!

I can neither confirm nor deny the rumours that our cohort left the theatre at 8:30pm and chose to indulge in sugary treats from YoChi after the show, but there is evidence to support such a claim...

Thank you to Amy Porter, pre-service teacher Annie Chiswell, and Isabella Farrar (Wellbeing) for joining us on this excursion. We very much appreciate all you do to ensure everyone feels supported in our learning.
