Cultural Celebrations and Exciting Language Opportunities in Term 1

At the start of Term 1, Chinese students from Year 7 to VSL engaged in Chinese New Year cultural activities, including red couplet calligraphy writing, red envelope making, paper cutting, and shuttlecock social games.

Towards the end of the term, Year 7 students showcased their understanding and creativity in a Character Art Piece Competition, where they incorporated character components into drawings that reflected their meanings. Congratulations to Amelia Wills for winning the competition!

Year 7 French students have been able to demonstrate their creativity in Term 1 through creating a self-portrait of themselves using the vocabulary they have been learning in class. Students also selected a Francophone (French speaking) country to research and create a poster about. As you can see, both tasks look great!

In the last few weeks of term, French students in Years 10, 11 and 12 were invited on an excursion to attend a film as part of the annual French Film Festival. Year 10 students went to see Like A Prince and the VCE students saw The Story of Souleymane.

I am very pleased to announce that Manon Carpentier will be joining the school as a French Language Assistant at the start of Term 2. Manon will working very closely with the VCE French students to help them practice their French speaking skills, but she will also be in a range of French classes, and the Languages Team is looking forward to working with her.

I would also like to highlight some of the events that will be happening early in Term 2. Firstly, selected Year 8 and Year 9 students will represent Sandringham College at the Chinese Language Day and Reading Competition at Camberwell Grammar School. Best of luck to them!  In addition, certain students from Year 7 to 10 will take part in the French Poetry Competition during Week 5 of term.
