Social Science

This year the Australian Geography Competition was bigger and better than ever with 233 students from Years 7-10 taking part. Thank you to Ms Doshi for her organisation of this event. We hope to replicate the school’s success last year with many High Distinction and a state rank.

Year 9 & 10 Commerce Take On the ASX The trading floor has moved into the classroom at Epping Boys High School! Under the guidance of Mr Kinsky, our Year 9 and Year 10 Commerce cohorts are currently competing in the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game. Managing virtual funds across real ASX-listed companies, the boys are transforming abstract textbook finance concepts into fast-paced, real-world analytical skills. Keep an eye out for our results when Game 1 wraps up on 21 May.

Mock Trial

On May 12 our team consisting of 7 boys from Year 11: Adam T, Agastya S, Liam D, Seif M, Yajas D, Xavier H and I went to Masada College to participate in Round 2 of The Mock Trial Competition.

It was a criminal case, where the Crown accused the defendant of reckless damage of property under the Crimes Act NSW (1900). We were the defense team, needing to show why the defendant didn’t commit the crime he was accused of. After a long trial and constant back and forth the magistrate announced a close result; unfortunately, a victory for Masada. Overall, the trial provided a great experience for the boys learning about the formalities and procedures of the court room. The overall environment and nature of the case prompted us to be critical in terms of our responses and how to present our case. We had a great time and a big thank you to Mr Dewane for organising the trial.
