In Term 2 our Year 7's have been delving into poetry and its purpose while learning some first time skills including annotations, analysis of techniques and TEEL paragraph writing. Year 8's have expanded on their Stage 4 understanding analysing the ways in which a variety of texts evoke emotions and further cementing their understanding of short responses and TEEL paragraph structuring. Year 9s are studying Australian poets from a range of cultural contexts and perspectives, developing their understanding of audience, purpose and context in their essay writing. Year 10s are extending upon their Stage 5 skills by studying their first suit of poetry by an Australian poet to develop their skills in comparison and synthesis of a poet's ideas. Year 11and Year 12 Advanced are both completing their Module A units, engaging in Textual Conversations. Our Year 12 Standard Students should have their noses in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime at home for their Module B unit.
Students have had the opportunity to engage in Symposium's on Shakespeare's plays across Stage 5 and 6, providing valuable opportunities to breath life into the words on Shakespeare's page. Our HPGE classes have also had to the opportunity to visit the Sydney Writer's Festival 2026 to listen to and gain the insights from Australian authors. A specific thank you to Ms Hoy for driving these exciting excursions for our students.
From all of us in English, please role model reading for our boys, read with them and to them, have a book at hand- put one on their bed, or laptop- with some pages of magic read before before they jump online.
