Congratulations 2025 Gold Awardees

 

Epping Boys High School proudly recongnises the outstanding achievement of four Old Boys from the Class of 2025, Dillon, Angus, Evan and Jarrell, who have successfully achieved the prestigious Gold The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

 

In acknowledgement of this significant accomplishment, the Old Boys attended a reception hosted by Her Excellency Margaret Beazley, Governor of New South Walers, at Government House. This reception recongised the dedication, perseverance and leadership demonstrated by Gold Award recipients. 

 

The Gold Award is the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and required participants to demonstrate sustained commitment across the areas of Service, Skill, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey, alongside the completion of a Residential Project designed to develop independence, teamwork, and resilience. Completing the Award reflects an exceptional level of initiative, persistence, and personal growth over an extended period of time.

 

Throughout their years at Epping Boys High School, Dillon, Angus, Evan and Jarrell consistently demonstrated the school values of Respect, Responsibility and Engagement. Their achievement stands as a testament to the benefits of challenging oneself beyond the classroom and contributing positively to the wider community.

 

The school congratulates Dillon, Angus, Evan and Jarrell on this accomplishment and thanks them for the example they continue to provide to current and future participants in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award framework.

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Residential Project 2026

Epping Boys High School congratulates the current 2026 Gold The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award cohort on the successful completion of their Gold Residential Project through their service at the Sydney North Region ScoutHike Sleep Point 4 activity base.

 

Throughout the event, students played a significant leadership and mentoring role in supporting more than 700 Scouts undertaking expedition hiking activities across the weekend. Working alongside adult leaders and youth members, the students assisted in developing in confidence, resilience and outdoor skills of participants, many of whom were undertaking their first major expedition experience.

 

As part of their Residential Project responsibilities, the students assisted in the facilitation of three separate activity  bases focused on campcraft, problem solving and team initiatives. These activities challenged Scouts to develop practical outdoor skills, communicate effectively under pressure, and work collaboratively to overcome unfamiliar challenges. The Epping students demonstrated initiative and adaptability while mentoring younger participants through each activity.

 

Beyond the fromal activity bases, students also provided wellbeing support and mentoring within the campsite environment, assisting younger Scouts to manage the physical and emotional challenges associated with expedition hikinh. Their encouragement and guidance helped foster a positive and supportive environment for particpants as they developed confidence and independence throughout the event.

 

The Gold Residential Project is designed to encourgae participants to engage with unfamiliar people in a challenging environment while contributing positvely to the wider commuity. Through their service at ScoutHike, the 2026 cohort demonstrated outstanding leadership, empathy and responsibility while representing Epping Boys High School and the values of the Duke of Edniburgh's International Award framework with distinction.
