This has been a busy and rewarding second half of the term, with many highlights across the Performing Arts and Music programs, including the Junior School production, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR.

Year 6 students commenced auditions in Term 2 and rehearsed enthusiastically throughout the term. Each morning, the sounds of other year levels practising their songs and choreography could be heard across the campus, with Toot Sweets and Hushabye Mountain echoing through the buildings and even on the walk to the stadium.

The performances were led by our talented Year 6 cast, who embraced their characters and brought the story to life. The principal roles included Caractacus Potts (Bentley M), Truly Scrumptious (Shiloh B), Jeremy (Javan V), Jemima (Sarah G), and Grandpa (Ezra B-P). The Vulgarians were led by the Baron (Isaac W), Baroness (Sianna S), Boris (Lucas L), and Goran (George L). Every Year 6 student contributed to creating moments of joy, humour, and suspense, while memorable cameo performances were delivered by Coggins (Ranbaaz S), the Turkey Farmer (Mila S), the Toymaker (Alexander B), and the Childcatcher (Maia C).

Each year level added colour, energy, and movement to the production, culminating in a spectacular finale that featured more than 400 students raising the roof of Life Ministry Church with an energetic rendition of the title song. Congratulations and thanks to Year 5 (Sweet Factory Workers), Year 4 (Vulgarian Royal Samba Dancers), Year 3 (Vulgarian Villagers), Year 2 (Hidden Children), Year 1 (Fairgoers), and Prep (Star Chorus) for giving their very best in every performance.

Of course, we must not forget the true star of the show: the car itself. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, we love you!

We are deeply grateful to our students for their dedication and enthusiasm, to our staff for their expertise and commitment, and to our families for their encouragement and support throughout the production process.

Soirée Evening 2

Soirée Evening 2 showcased a number of Junior and Secondary School students in solo performances featuring brass, strings, piano, and voice. The evening provided an excellent opportunity for many students who are preparing for examinations to perform before an audience and further develop their musicianship and confidence.

The latter part of the term also included two School at Work events, featuring excellent performances from the Barbershop Boys and Cantabile.

Victorian School Music Festival

Our Senior Vocal Ensemble performed at the Victorian School Music Festival and achieved the outstanding result of a Gold Award. This marked the first time an ensemble from Oxley Christian College has participated in the festival, making it both a significant milestone and a valuable learning experience. The ensemble performed three works and received adjudication, as well as an on-stage tutorial from the festival clinicians. The students are to be congratulated on this excellent achievement.

Two members of staff were recognised in the Australian Society for Music Education (ASME) Victoria Music Education Awards for 2026. Mr Aaron Chan was acknowledged for Community Engagement, while Mr Jeffrey Clarke was recognised for his Impact within our school and the broader community. The College congratulates both teachers on their outstanding contributions to Music Education at Oxley Christian College.

Term 3 concludes fittingly with the Secondary School Gala Concert, where we acknowledge the contributions of our Year 12 musicians. A full report on this event will appear in the next edition of The Vine.
