Prep

What a wonderful term it has been for our Prep students! The children have continued to grow in confidence, knowledge and independence as they engage in a variety of exciting learning experiences.

The students have particularly enjoyed learning and singing songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. as they prepare for and performed in the Junior School Production. They have enthusiastically joined in with rehearsals, developing their singing skills and learning to perform together as a team. It has been wonderful to see their excitement when performing

In Mathematics, the students have been learning about subtraction. They have been using concrete materials to explore taking away, finding the difference and solving simple subtraction problems. Using hands-on resources has helped the children develop a deeper understanding of subtraction and explain their mathematical thinking.

Throughout the term, the students have worked hard to consolidate their learning across all areas of the curriculum. They have revisited important skills, strengthened their understanding and applied their knowledge in new and meaningful ways. We are so proud of their effort, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

It has been a fantastic term filled with learning, laughter and friendship. We look forward to another exciting term of growth and discovery!

Year 1

Recently, in Mathematics, our classroom transformed into an active investigation scene where students became 'Mass Detectives'! We explored the concept of mass by investigating what makes an item feel heavier or lighter. Working collaboratively, our detectives made predictions, hefted mystery objects by hand, used balance scales to measure with Unifix blocks, and then compared our findings. There was plenty of excitement discovering that size doesn't always equal weight, and sometimes a small object packs a surprisingly heavy punch! Be sure to ask us about how we measured and compared our mystery items at school!

Year 2

In Writing, Year 2 has been working on poetry and focusing on using specific nouns and verbs. Kenning poems use two words on each line, either two nouns or a noun and a verb. Kenning poems describe something or someone without saying exactly who or what it is. We have included some lines of our poems. Can you guess who Year 2 is describing?

Year 3

Our Year 3 students have been exploring the wonderful world of poetry, learning how poets use words to share ideas, feelings, memories and experiences. As part of their first free-style poetry pieces, students responded to the prompt “My Happy Place…”. They were encouraged to use their five senses to explore what they could see, hear, smell, taste and feel, adding detail to help bring their writing to life.

Students were also encouraged to develop their own author’s voice. Rather than following a set structure, they had the freedom to experiment with words, ideas and descriptions that were meaningful to them. This allowed each student to approach the prompt in their own way and create a poem that reflected their individual experiences and imagination.

It has been great to see students beginning to recognise that poetry is an opportunity to play with language, express ideas and make creative choices.

Year 4

What a busy few weeks it has been in Year 4! In Mathematics, we were introduced to decimals. We explored the size of tenths and hundredths and played games to be the first to make one whole. We spent plenty of time investigating visual representations of decimals and matching them to the related fractions and decimal numbers. We were so proud of how quickly we grasped these new concepts. In the following weeks, we applied our understanding of decimals during our Money unit. Seeing decimals used in real-life contexts helped consolidate our learning and build our confidence. Now, we're spotting decimals everywhere!

Year 5

After many weeks of practice and preparation, our Year 5’s performed in the Junior School Musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. It has been very exciting to be able to perform in front of their friends and family—a true immersive experience! For many students, this has been a highlight of Term 3, with the whole cohort singing and dancing to the melodious song “Toot Sweets”. We're looking forward to next year, when they will get the opportunity to be lead roles for the 2027 Production. As their teachers, we are super-proud of how they have applied themselves, well done!

Year 6

Year 6 Brings Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to Life

As the curtain closes on our production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR., we in Year 6 are fondly looking back on an unforgettable experience filled with hard work, teamwork, and plenty of fun! After months of rehearsals and performances, our production season has come to an end, and we could not be prouder of what we achieved together.

One highlight was rehearsing alongside students from the younger year levels. They brought such joy to their songs! The extra time spent rehearsing was also special, strengthening our friendships, creating new bonds, and giving us plenty of moments to laugh and celebrate together.

When the time to perform finally arrived, all of our hard work paid off. Stepping onto the stage in front of our families and friends was exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. But seeing the audience smile, laugh, and applaud throughout the show made every rehearsal worthwhile. It felt fantastic to share the tale of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. with our school community and celebrate everything we accomplished together. We are incredibly grateful to our teachers, families, and everyone who supported us throughout the journey. It was a truly memorable production and a wonderful way to celebrate our final year of Junior School.
