Debating

After winning the Ringwood Region in Debating, our Year 10 Team progressed to the State Finals Series where they verse the top schools from across the State. Oxley has been represented by Leah C (9.10), Celina W-M (10.4), Nicole M (10.3) and Priscilla P (10.4). The team was successful in their Playoff Debate against Parade College and progressed through to the State Octo-finals, which is the top 32 schools in the State. 

Our team defeated Melbourne High School in their Octo-final debate. They were given a secret topic debate, which means students receive the topic one hour before the debate starts. The topic for this debate was: That humanity has a responsibility to protect the environment beyond Earth. As the affirmative side, our students spoke with great clarity and precision as they argued for the preservation of space and the need to invent sustainable space equipment. Special mention goes to Nicole M (10.3) who did a brilliant job of dismantling the opposing team's arguments and remained responsive to the main themes of the debate.

This means our Year 10 Debating team is now in the top 8 teams in the State! They progress to the Quarter Finals, which will be held at Korowa Anglican Girls' School on Thursday 8 October.
