Students Continue Their Winning Streak

Our Oxley students were once again amazing, winning the EISM Division 2 Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 9 September.

This is the third EISM carnival the College has won this year, following our victories in Swimming, Athletics and now Cross Country. What a wonderful testament to our students’ willingness to represent the College and perform to such a high standard.

The carnival was held in Doncaster East, with all students competing in a 3000m race.

The College also won the trophy for Most Improved School, while our U/14 Girls and Open Girls teams were winners in their respective categories.

Despite missing some of our strongest runners in four of the boys’ age groups, we still managed to finish second overall in the boys’ competition, which was an excellent result.

Our Cross Country students showed great commitment and dedication in the lead-up to the event, attending early-morning training sessions every Monday before school with Running Coach, Mr Daniel Waddell. Their hard work and preparation were evident on race day.

A big thank you to all the students who represented the College at the Cross Country. We are very proud of the effort, commitment and determination you demonstrated in preparing to run your best race.

Keep Building Your Fitness on Thursday Afternoons at Oxley

Students can continue to work on their overall fitness by attending the fitness sessions on Thursday afternoons from 3.45pm on Court 3 in the Stadium.

Congratulations to all our Cross Country students on an outstanding performance. Three EISM Carnival victories in one year is a fantastic achievement—well done, Oxley!

Oxley Institute of Sport Concludes for the Year

The Oxley Institute of Sport (OIS) commenced in Term 2 with 22 student enrolments, including 11 Year 7 students. Training sessions were generally divided into two groups, with the Year 7 students training separately from the remainder of the group, which consisted primarily of Year 8 and 9 students, along with two Year 11 boys.

The College was fortunate to once again secure the services of Mr Shaun Atkins as our basketball coach. Shaun is the founder and director of SRA Sports Therapy, an elite athlete development and injury rehabilitation facility in Lilydale. A former Junior Vic Country State Basketball athlete, Shaun also played three years of high school basketball in the USA and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the program.

The enthusiasm and commitment of students enrolled in the program were reflected in their excellent attendance. Most students maintained a 100 per cent attendance record, while those who missed a small number of sessions did so primarily due to illness.

Training was held twice a week, on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7.15am to 8.15am in the stadium.

Over the past week, students and parents have received a comprehensive report on their progress. These reports provide valuable feedback on each student's development, highlighting their progress and achievements throughout the training program.

This year, the OIS offered basketball training only, due to insufficient interest in the netball program. The basketball program concluded on Wednesday 16 September.

The OIS program will recommence in Term 2, 2027, and will again be open to students from Years 7 to 10. With continued participation, commitment and consistency, we believe our Oxley basketballers have the potential to become highly competitive in the EISM competition.

We look forward to welcoming students back to the program next year and seeing strong interest and participation as we begin another season of OIS training.
