GIRLS ROCK!
Girls Rock! Melbourne aims to empower young female, trans, and gender diverse youth aged 10 - 17 through music and education. In the space of a week (Monday – Friday), campers will form their own band, learn an instrument, watch live music performances, participate in creative workshops, and write an original song to be performed at the end of the week at a showcase. Our next camp will be held at Wick Studios in Brunswick and run September 25-29, 2017 with a showcase on Sunday October 1st, 2017.
The first Girls Rock Camp, Rock 'n' Roll Camp 4 Girls in Portland, Oregon in the USA, was founded in 2001. Since then, over 50 camps have been started worldwide, with camps in Canada, Sweden, France, Germany, Iceland, Brazil and Peru. GR!M is aligned with the Girls Rock Camp Alliance, a worldwide support network of camp organisers, and will follow their core values:
- The power of music as a means to create personal and social change;
- The efforts that actively expand opportunities for girls and women;
- Positive approaches to fighting sexism;
- Integrity, honesty and respect;
- Appropriate sharing of resources, cooperation, and collaboration;
- Using our collective voice to further our mission;
- Diversity.
