DEBATING CLUB
Over the year, students in the FCC Debating Club in Year 10 and 11 have participated in five rounds of interschool debates at Williamstown High hosted by the Debaters Association of Victoria.
Year 11 team: Hayley Cassidy, Matt Cox, Alec Coupe, Spencer Buck and Erica Giudici (in Round 1)
Year 10 team: Pat Luker, Martin Harris and Luey Kemp-Mykyta
The Year 11 team had four narrow losses and one win. Congratulations to Matt Cox for winning Best Speaker in Round 4.
The Year 10 team won three debates and lost two. Congratulations to Luey Kemp-Mykta for winning Best Speaker in Rounds 1, 3 and 5 and Pat Luker for winning Best Speaker in Round 2.
All participating students are to be commended for being positive representatives for the school and for their outstanding performance and improvement across the year. Most of the students were new to debating but were still able to work as a team to speak on a wide variety of topics, further developing the invaluable life skill of public speaking.
Throughout Term 3, students in the FCC Junior Debating Club in Years 7 and 8 participated in three rounds of friendly interschool debates at Brunswick Secondary College hosted by the Debaters Association of Victoria.
Year 8’s: Charlie O’Regan, Felix Briggs, Carrell Barwick, Eva Smith, Dylan Merchant and James Pearce.
Year 7’s: Lachlan Corbett, Stefan Kemp-Mykyta, Elliott Keeling-Mayer and Earl Vodicka
Both teams were declared the winners of their debates in every round - a fantastic result reflecting the preparation and skills of both teams. Special congratulations to Charlie O’Regan, Lachlan Corbett and Earl Vodicka for being awarded Best Speaker.
