Sports Review

Another busy term for Secondary School Sport with a number of Interschool events taking place throughout Autumn.

Our 9/10 boys Soccer team made a fantastic start to their tournament and following an emphatic 7-0 win over Mill Park SC, looked poised to secure their pool. Unfortunately, injuries to key players and the accumulated fatigue caused by the grueling back to back schedule proved too great an obstacle for the team to overcome, suffering subsequent losses and ultimately ending their campaign.

The 9/10 girls Netball team also started strongly, winning their first two matches against Mill Park SC and Gilson College before suffering losses to Hazel Glen, Mernda Central and eventual tournament winners, Whittlesea SC.

The year 8 girls made a great start on the Netball court with a comfortable win over Mernda Central before a second-round loss to Hazel Glen, eventually finishing the day with 2 wins and 2 losses.

The year 8 boys looked good in their first Soccer match but were unable find the back of the net, drawing 0-0 with Hazel Glen. A comfortable 5-1 win over Thomastown put our boys in a good position for progressing to regionals, unfortunately they were unable to get a win in the third round and finished in second place for the day.

Earlier in the term, a small but dedicated contingent of students from the secondary campus took part in the annual Whittlesea division cross country competition. Held at the undulating Bundoora Park course in unseasonably warm weather our student athletes once again did us proud, producing a number of fantastic results. Lexie R taking a hard fought second place, Charlotte A finishing in third and younger brother Ryan A finishing just off the podium in their respective events.

Unfortunately, the year 7 sport teams had their events postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions but with be taking to the field early in term 3. They have been training very hard and we look forward to sharing their success with you all.

A huge thanks to all of the staff and students who have been involved in the Sport program throughout the semester. It has been great to see so many excited faces at sport trials, training sessions and events throughout the term.

Great job Lakers!
