Year 4 News

From Lina McAliden, Year 4 teacher

Nile-Tastic Adventures!

Grade 4 has begun an exciting new unit on Ancient Egypt. We have been integrating Ancient Egypt into our Reading and Writing lessons, giving students the opportunity to deepen their learning through cross-curricular connections. We promise no children were actually mummified in the process.

“Hello, this is William and Amaal from 4D! We have been learning all about Ancient Egypt. We learnt about sarcophagi, which hold mummies, and discovered what Ancient Egyptians believed about the afterlife and how they prepared mummies. We even wrapped Jetson up as a mummy! A fun fact is that Ancient Egyptians used natron salt to preserve the bodies. We also created YouTube thumbnails inspired by Ancient Egyptian daily life. We put a lot of effort and time into them, and we think people would definitely click on them!”

Sentence Science

Through Literacy, Grade 4 has been learning about Sentence Science. Sentence Science is a program that supports students in understanding sentence structure and strengthens their writing, reading, and speaking skills.

“Hi, my name is Jetson and my name is Allegra. This term, we have been learning about Sentence Science, including subjects, verb groups, subject adjectives, and objects. Next week, we will be learning about adverbials. Sentence Science is fun and helps us improve our sentences in writing!”

Musical Multiplication

Maths has been very musical this term! You may have heard us belting out our 9 times tables to Chappell Roan or singing our 7 times tables to Rick Astley. We are Never Gonna Give Up our love for times tables!

“Hi, my name is Leela from 4D. This term, we have been learning about skip-counting. We practised counting by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s and 10s while listening to songs to help us memorise them. We also filled in our Skip Counting sheets each time we mastered a set. That’s what we have been learning in Maths!”
