Biz -E -Kidz Update

From Libby Hanna, Biz-E-Kidz Coordinator

Bring on Term 2!

Welcome back everyone to Term 2! Our April Holiday Program is always a big event because it’s the first Holiday Program that Preps can join! This Holiday Program was action-packed but we eased into it with a chill first three days which centred around long-form imaginary play, performances, shops, extended craft and settling in. This week went out with a bang on Friday when we had native animals visit! Children extended their learning by making research booklets on the native animals that interested them. Thank you Akio and Ayumi for sharing your impressive work on the Woma Python and the Common Froglet.

The second week of our Holiday Program was busier, with excursions to the cinema to see The Magic Faraway Tree(!), a visit from our resident Scientist, Whacky Wheels Day and a visit from Patrick from Farm to Ferment, in which Prep children collaborated to make preserved lemons, and older children made a spicy kraut! Children also enjoyed a leisurely afternoon in the school’s SAKGP Garden, eating guavas, raspberries, salvia nectar, herbs, cherry tomatoes and chillis… Thank you Tess for providing such an enriching garden for us all to explore and enjoy.

Congratulations to everyone who performed on our stage on the Holiday Program! Charlie and Wolfe did an epic rendition of ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top’ with their crafted guitars. Uno cards flew in an explosive solo and the crowd went wild. ROCK ON! Akira drove everyone to fits of laughter with his completely original absurdist performance wearing a Luigi hat, backed by circus music. I don’t think anyone knew what was happening but that was the genius of it.

Robbie commandeered several Educators into his play about pack up time at Biz-E-Kidz. Holly T had a starring role as …trash!!

Harper and Violet demonstrating their purchases from the ‘pet’ shop. Shops are always popular on the Holiday Program and are a great example of children collaborating towards shared goals, exploring currency and relative value as they set prices for their wares. The currency is pretty much always gumnuts and has been for decades.

Welcome to new Educator Otto! Otto is studying a Masters of Social Work and is a North Melbourne local. He has worked at the City of Melbourne Arts House and the Abbotsford Convent, implementing arts programs for children and families.

Welcome back everyone to Term 2, we can’t wait to see what it has in store for us!
