Music Matters

It has been a vibrant and energetic start to the year in Music. All ensembles are now underway, and it has been particularly encouraging to see such strong participation across choirs, bands and orchestras. We are also delighted to welcome an abundance of students beginning private music tuition and joining our many ensembles options.

Private lessons can commence at any time throughout the year; however, starting earlier allows students to build confidence, skills and repertoire more quickly. If you would like to explore private tuition for your child, please contact us at music@huntingtower.vic.edu.au for further information.

2026 Concerts Overview

Our performance calendar for 2026 is shaping up to be both ambitious and inspiring. Families are encouraged to note the following key events:

TERM 1: AUTUMN CONCERT

We launch the year with our full ensemble showcase (see the next section in this article for more information).

TERM 2: SENIOR ENSEMBLES OPEN REHEARSALS & RECORDING SESSION

In Week 6, our Senior Ensembles will participate in an open rehearsal and recording session during their regular rehearsal times. This is a valuable opportunity for students to refine performance standards and engage in reflective practice.

Our Year 10 Chamber Choir and Big Band will be heading off to Mount Gambier to compete in the national competition known as Generations in Jazz in early May.

Intermezzo groups and Junior School ensembles will present their Winter Concert on the evening of Tuesday 16 June, celebrating their Semester 1 progress.

TERM 3: FESTIVALS & CHAMBER MUSIC

Most ensembles will compete in the VSMF, providing students with valuable adjudicated performance experience. We will also present a special Huntingtower Chamber Music Concert, highlighting smaller ensembles and collaborative musicianship.

TERM 4: SPRING CONCERTS & CELEBRATION NIGHTS

Our Year 12 students will feature in the Senior Spring Concert, demonstrating the culmination of their musical journey at Huntingtower. This will be followed by the Middle School Spring Concert a few weeks later.

Finally, our Junior and Senior School Celebration Nights will once again showcase the outstanding musical talent within our community.

2026 Autumn Music Concert

Wednesday, 1 April  |  6.30pm onwards

All choirs, orchestras and bands will perform in a relaxed twilight setting (weather permitting), centred around the grassy hill outside the Orchestral Room. This informal, semi-outdoor format creates a wonderful atmosphere for families to gather and enjoy a broad cross-section of our music program.

Further details will be shared shortly.

The year ahead is full of opportunity. Strong participation is only the beginning - what matters most is the commitment to growth, ensemble spirit and the pursuit of excellence. We look forward to sharing many memorable performances with you throughout 2026.
