Careers & Pathways

I will soon start meeting with all Year 10 students and their parents/guardians to commence the VCE subject selection process. All meeting requests have been sent out over the past week, so please look out for the invitation in your inbox. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to begin discussions about the students’ interests and aptitudes based on their Morrisby Profile, and investigate any career and pathway ideas that students have at this early stage. There are lots of resources available to families to assist with this process on the HT Connect Careers and Pathways Page here. Resources specific to Year 10s can be found here.
This week, I was able to spend time with the Year 9 and Year 11 students during their activities week. The Year 9 students worked on CVs and cover letters, focusing on simplifying formats and using key terminology to try to get through the first screening stage of the recruitment process! The Year 11 students spent a day at RMIT and ACU in the city. Sadly, rain interrupted the day somewhat, but it was still an excellent opportunity for students to hear about some of the CBD-based tertiary options they may not have considered as yet. During the week, the Year 11 students were also extremely lucky to hear from a range of presenters from an Occupational Therapist and a Doctor to an Architectural Assistant, a Plumber and a Game Designer (plus many more!) to help them understand their various post-school pathway options. A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time to come in and help inspire our students!
Following activities week, if any student would like to discuss anything further, they are most welcome to book in for a chat with me.
